Winter has come awfully early this year. We all thought the first snow would rapidly melt with the sun, but I still have snow and more is falling! Luckily I was able to harvest a few things from the fields early. I’ve still got lettuce and a few items in the hoophouse, too. Here’s what I hope to offer for the second indoor Market: bok choy, orange and rainbow carrots, leeks, , baby fennel, celery root, celery, salad turnips, baby lettuce heads, large green leaf lettuce, endive, broccoli (I planned to have way more but it’s not maturing in this cold) shallots, yellow, red, and Italian bottle onions, the last of the sweet peppers, butternut, honeynut, and delicata winter squash, arugula, gold and red beets, kohlrabi, and a few small cabbages. There may be a few other odds and ends, but it’s coming to a close with every hard freeze we get. Hope to see you first thing Saturday! Then go take in some movies at the Driftless Film Festival!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Aspen Ridge Home & Garden, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

October 19th - Week 25

Hello MP Market Goers!

It's the last outdoor market of the season! Do you know what you'll eat this winter? If you've got extra room in your fridge or freezer think ahead and buy to get you through. I'll be heading over to Cafe 43's stand for a couple loaves of their sourdough (my son's favorite); which comes out of the freezer fabulously.
If you're looking to stock up this weekend our vendors would love a heads up, give them a call ahead of time and they'll get your order ready to go and maybe even make/bring more so that they don't run short for other customers.
Congratulations to Lisa Howard winner of our final market basket drawing!
What else is going on in and around town this weekend: it's Fall Art Tour weekend! Many of our artisan vendors will not be at market this Saturday but will instead be in their galleries. Be sure to take the tour and enjoy the wonderful creations made by truly gifted local artists.
Thanks for all your support this season! Remember next week you'll find us in Aspen Ridge Home and Garden.

Thanks to all who braved the frosty, blustery weather last week. This last outdoor Market  looks to be much warmer, if a bit damp. We did get a killing frost here Sunday night, but managed to harvest the peppers in advance. I’ll have a variety of green, red, orange, and in-between colored peppers. Tomatoes are still holding on in the hoophouse, though ripening slowly.  I’ll have a limited amount of heirlooms, red slicers, saladettes, and cherry varieties. Crops that love the colder weather will also be available including red and orange beets, salad turnips, rainbow carrots, red and green cabbage, fennel, kale, celery, leeks, plus onions, shallots, three types of winter squash (delicata, honey nut, and butternut), mixed baby lettuce heads, dill and thyme. The arugula looks pretty good, so I should have a limited amount of baby arugula and salad mix. Yay! See you Saturday!

Shooting Star Farm
We’ve had some wonderful weather for Markets this year, but the last two have been a bit brisk and drizzly (if that’s a word). This Saturday looks quite cool, but likely sunny, which will be nice for a change. It’s been a flurry of activity here trying to get things done before the first frost: hoophouse endwalls went up, greens have been double-covered, and winter squash is out of the field. Still too wet to plant any more fall cover crops, so instead of wheat I will have random weeds holding the soil this winter. Whatever works! Many crops are winding down, but for this Saturday I’ll have red and orange sweet peppers, sweet green bell and Italian peppers, red, cherry, heirloom, and salad tomatoes, last week for roma tomatoes, beets, butternut, honeynut, and delicata squash, yellow, red, and bottle onions, shallots, leeks, red and green cabbage, rainbow carrots (orange, white, purple, and yellow varieties), thyme, parsley, oregano, dill, kale, a few salad turnip bunches, chard, kohlrabi, and a limited amount of baby lettuce heads. Salad mix is too small to harvest this week. I’m hoping for more next week. See you Saturday!

Sweet Earth Garden & Vintage China
Dear friends, patrons and fellow vendors, it looks like this the end of our season.  The amount of flowers and quality is decreasing so we will not be at the market anymore this season.  Thank you to all for your support and patronage.  It has been a very fine season in spite of all the weather challenges and am already preparing for next season.  Thank you again and see you next year.   It has been a pleasure.  Wishes for a happy and healthy winter to all. Barbara

October 5th - Week 23

Hello MP Market Goers!

It's getting a little squishy in our fields; almost makes me want to grow rice. Or maybe hop in a canoe and go for a paddle.

5" of rain and counting makes for a challenging fall harvest season. But our vendors are hardy stock and they get the job done. Plus Mineral Point Market growers like Shooting Star Farm have hoop houses that keep their tomato crop and others growing despite the wet and cool conditions we're facing here in Wisconsin.
So don't miss out; come to the Mineral Point Market and gather your own harvest this Saturday morning in Water Tower Park.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:
Beef, Pork, Chicken, Bacon, Alaskan Seafood, Cheese, Eggs, Fresh Baked Bread, Tomatoes, Cabbage, Salad Turnips, Kohlrabi, Fennel Bulb, Lettuce, Carrots, Peppers, Beets, Tomatillos, Onions, Leeks, Shallots, Dill, Parsley, Oregano, Thyme, Pumpkins, Gourds, Indian Corn, Squash, Honey, Syrup, Coffee, Sweet and Savory Baked Goods, Tomato Sauces, Pies, Pickles, Salsa, Jam, Watercolor Paintings, Prints and Cards, Floral Bouquets, Chair Massages, Wood Crafts, Kids Activities, and much more. Come and check it all out!
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday in Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Kathy Bures

Co-Manager
Mineral Point Market

Café 43
Many of you know us as the little spot next to Tequila Point. We thought it might be nice to share a taste of the café with you all. Tim and Richard, myself and Richard's mom have been working on some sweet and savory offerings (several of which are café favorites). All of our recipes are scratch-made in small batches right down the street in the kitchen of the Old Royal Inn. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! We will also be serving hot and cold Colectivo coffee (roasted in Milwaukee and served in the café). Thank you for stopping by. We look forward to a wonderful season!
Chestnut Hill Studio
Jan will be at her spot under the shelter weather permitting with paintings, prints, cards, and ceramic tiles. Stop and see examples of homes, pets, kids, and portraits Jan has done for clients. Great gifts for anniversaries, birthday, memorials or just because.

Magic Light Photography
I will not be at the market this weekend. My market season is done for this year, unless we go into November.  But that doesn't mean my work will not be available!  I will be on the Fall Art Tour October 18-20.  When I'm not at the market my cards are available at the Mineral Point Collection located at 151 High Street. You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com or on my Facebook Page. If you see anything of mine online that you would like a print of, please let me know! I'm also available for special photo projects and portrait sessions. Contact me for more information.
Marr's Valley View Farm
Summer is over 'again' and we are back to Fall. Have to say Fall feels pretty nice. Word on the street is the Market will be moving indoors at Aspen Ridge again this year once the outdoor Market ends so stay tuned to the weekly newsletter for updates. As the season winds down we will gradually discontinue items we carry only during the Market season. As usual, for best selection make sure you come to Market early and stock up on your favorite beef and pork cuts or perhaps live on the edge and try something totally new. If you need a large quantity or just want to pre-order for pick-up at Market, e-mail your order to federman@charter.net or call 608-574-2899 by 5:00 p.m. Friday.
Pam Rosecky
Hi, this is Pam Rosecky and I  am back again doing chair massages. $1.00 per minute working shoulders, neck, and arms for a relaxing experience while under big oak trees. See you there.
Sitka Salmon
We will be back this week with a variety of wild-caught Alaskan seafood.
Shooting Star Farm
Nearly 5 inches of rain here over the past week. It’s been an awfully wet month, making harvesting a sloppy business. We love being in the hoophouses where the tomatoes reside. And speaking of tomatoes, while most everyone is done with outdoors tomatoes, my hoophouse plants are still going strong and will continue for another few weeks. Red slicers, heirlooms, 4 cherry varieties, saladettes, and romas will be on the table this week. I will also have red and green cabbage, salad turnips, large kohlrabi, fennel bulb, baby lettuce heads, a mix of orange, yellow, purple, and white carrots, sweet red, yellow, and orange mini peppers, larger orange and red frying peppers, green bell and green frying peppers, bunched red beets, tomatillos, jalapenos, red and yellow onions, leeks, shallots, dill, parsley, oregano, thyme, and possibly some salad mix and arugula. The last two depend on how they fair once the mud settles a bit. It may be damp on Saturday, but we’ll be there!
Sunny Side Down Farm
We are back with ALL the bread - Artisan White Boule, Italian Tomato, Sourdough and Sweet Potato Bread! Plus all the pies and banana breads for dessert. Comfort food at its best! Have a pie flavor in mind that you'd love to pick up at market this weekend?  Message us on Facebook
