I am planning on being at the market this weekend, weather permitting.  Once again I will have a selection of my nature and wildlife photography available as matted prints ready for framing as well as greeting cards.  All of my cards are blank inside so they can be used for any occasion.  I will also have an 11x17 poster of my most popular photograph, Bucky's Twins.  I'm no longer making photographic prints of this image so this is the next best way to get an enlarged copy of this photo at an affordable price and printed locally!  My photos don't handle moister very well so I won't be at the market if there is rain in the forecast.  When I'm not at the market my cards are always available at the Mineral Point Collection located at 151 High Street.  I'm hoping that my schedule will allow me to be at the market a bit more often this year so I hope to see you under the water tower!  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com.   Thanks, Mike
Marr's Valley View Farms
It's the last 'official' holiday weekend of the season and we are fully stocked with ground beef patties, and bratwurst for your weekend cookout!  And of course, Tenderloin, New York Strip and Top Sirloin are irresistible on the grill.  Feeding extra-hungry mouths - go for the "meal on it's own" Porterhouse or T-Bone steak.  If you are like us, you are a lover of weekend family breakfasts that include bacon, pork sausage and ham.  Our Pork Chops are great grilling companions to our beef products.  Even though it is summer, we have all varieties of Beef and Pork Roasts on hand - all of which hit new levels of "delicious" when done on the grill.  Our Stew Meat makes the prefect shish-ka-bob meat.  Or how about some Beef Short Ribs and Pork Spare Ribs "falling-off-the-bone" slow cooked.  If you are in need of a large quantity please place your order in advance and we will have it all ready for you to pick up at the Market.  When you dine on Marr's Valley View Farms meats, rest assured you are eating naturally lean meats - fresh beef and pork products direct from a local farm to you.  If you need a large quantity - send an e-mail to federman@charter.net or call 608-574-2899 by Friday evening and we will have your order ready for pickup at the Market.  See you Saturday!  All of us at Marr's Valley View Farms, Mineral Point, WI.

August 26th - Week 17

Hello MP Market Goers!

Summer is truly marching on and we are in full on late summer mode at the Mineral Point Market. That means our market farmers are super busy harvesting. Late summer means zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, sweet corn, and TOMATOES.
The Mineral Point Market has produce that can't be compared to what's found in the super market and I for one intend to make the most of the deliciousness by preserving these products for winter consumption.

Shooting Star Farm has tomatoes a plenty right now, even 20# boxes! Can you say sauce, salsa, or tomato jam? Don't want to make something with them right now but want that flavor available this winter? How about freezing or sun drying those tomatoes?
Don't miss out on the great flavors of market this winter. Start thinking and planning ahead, you'll be glad you did!
A side note of apology: Last week I stated that the worker bees in a hive are all male. Justin Johnson read the newsletter and informed me...

"I am a beekeeper and all worker bees are FEMALE. Drones are the only males in the hive and their one and only purpose is to fertilize a young queen during her mating flight (which they die after mating). Then in the fall during winter preparation the Males are all killed off by the worker bees and thrown out of the hive. No free loaders over winter lol."

Thanks for catching my goof Justin! Always great to learn something new!

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Bacon, Chicken, Rabbit, Turkey, Duck, Cheese, Eggs, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Salad Mix, Radishes, Eggplant, Peppers, Cilantro, Dill, Fennel, Celery, Zucchini,  Pattypan Squash, Cucumbers, Onions, Beets, Kale, Napa Cabbage, Swiss Chard, Basil, Garlic, Green Beans, Tomatillos, Sweet Corn, Potatoes, Asparagus Soup, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Honey, Maple Syrup, Dilly Beans, BBQ Sauce, Relish, Jams and Jellies, Bee Pollen, Cards, Muffins, Cookies, Bars, Fresh Cut Flowers, Doll Clothes, and much more. Come and check it all out!

Hi All! It seems we will have another nice Sat. this week so I am planning to be at Market.  I must admit I'm in a bit of a slump this week so not a lot of time has been spent at the sewing machine (so far).  I do hope to rally soon, tho as the fabrics and dolls do seem to be calling out to me.  I guess we need to have a "Back to school" sale so I will again be offering $10.00 items at any 3 for $25.00.  It won't be long and I'll have my "fall collection" (as I love to call it!!) ready.  So stop by and say "Hi" and take advantage of the reduced prices!!  I hope to see you this Sat. Aug.26 at M.Pt. Market!!    Mummu

August 19th - Week 16

Hello MP Market Goers!

Congrats to Joyce Berning winner of last week's market basket drawing!

Saturday is National Honey Bee Day! Do you know those little guys (because the worker bees are male) pollinate over 1/3 of the fruit and vegetables we eat?  Many produce farmers either manage their own hives or invite bee keepers to bring hives to their property thus ensuring that the farmer's crops get pollinated fully.

Bees can be pretty particular in what flowers they want to feed off though. We've caught these wonderful creatures showing lots of love to our peas, pumpkins, sunflowers, and raspberries. Sure they'll visit our other crops but these crops will often times have multiple bees on each flower! Yummy honey here we come!

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Bacon, Chicken, Rabbit, Turkey, Duck, Cheese, Eggs, Carrots, Cilantro, Dill, Salad Mix, Arugula, Lettuce, Fennel, Celery, Peppers, Eggplant, Zucchini, Pattypan Squash, Cucumbers, Swiss Chard, Tomatoes, Basil, Garlic, Green Beans, Tomatillos, Potatoes, Asparagus Soup, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Honey, Maple Syrup, Dilly Beans, BBQ Sauce, Relish, Jams and Jellies, Bee Pollen, Cards, Muffins, Cookies, Bars, Fresh Cut Flowers, Wildlife Prints, Watercolor Art, and much more. Come and check it all out!

Rain Wednesday amounted to about .15”. The dust has settled, but the sprinklers are running again. August 5th - Week 14

Hello MP Market Goers!

Did you have your BLT last week? I did and it was delicious! I have to have more! I just love all the tastes of summer. From the fresh ripe tomatoes to the crisp green beans. You can't beat summer's fresh flavors in Wisconsin. And while summer doesn't last all that long in Wisconsin, in fact we're over halfway through our market season, there are ways to preserve it's flavors for enjoyment during the winter months.
Several of our vendors at the Mineral Point Market do the preserving for you and those that don't are sure to have suggestions on the best way in which to do so. Tomatoes and green beans are both plentiful right now and can be canned or frozen. Basil and dill can also be frozen for use at a later date. There's so much that one can do with summer's bounty, just ask one of us while your at market Saturday we'd be glad to offer suggestions and helpful hints.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Bacon, Chicken, Rabbit, Turkey, Duck, Cheese, Eggs, Carrots, Cilantro, Dill, Salad Mix, Arugula, Lettuce, Peppers, Eggplant, Zucchini, Pattypan Squash, Cucumbers, Onions, Beets, Collards, Kale, Swiss Chard, Tomatoes, Basil, Garlic, Green Beans, Potatoes, Asparagus Soup, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Honey, Maple Syrup, BBQ Sauce, Relish, Jams and Jellies, Bee Pollen, Cards, Scones, Muffins, Cookies, Bars, Doll Clothing, Fresh Cut Flowers, Wildlife Prints, Watercolor Art, Classic Magnets, and much more. Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Farmer's Daughters
Hello everyone! Its finally dried out down here on the part of the Pecatonica where east and west branches meet... Now we just have lots of mud that smells like wet dog... It's one of those smells you don't readily forget, and when its gone, you still appreciate Mother Nature and all of her givings. This week has been a bit hectic on the farm with skidloader fire, new calves and finishing some field work. I think they call it 'fun on the farm', which it is! We can't imagine doing anything different. In between feeding new babies and other various tasks, we will be baking fresh for you: muffins, scones, a breakfast cookie...(a very welcome suggestion!!) bars, fresh peach somethings... and more! Hope to see you Saturday!
Happy Hunter Farms

Magic Light Photography
We won't be at market this week but will be back next week. See you then!
