This weekend is the unofficial end of summer. However, Labor Day Weekend is exciting as the Iowa County Fair is in town!
Before you head to the fair, make sure to stop by the Mineral Point Market to stock up on everything you may need! We have all of the essentials for grilling shishkabobs this weekend as well as sides like salsas and breads. Many of you know us as the little spot next to Tequila Point. We thought it might be nice to share a taste of the café with you all. Tim & Richard, myself, and Richard’s mom have been working on some sweet and savory offerings (several of which are café favorites). All of our recipes are scratch made in small batches right down the street in the kitchen of the Old Royal Inn. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! We will also be serving hot and cold Colectivo coffee (roasted in Milwaukee and served in the café). Thank you for stopping by. We look forward to a wonderful season! We got another 1 ½- inches of rain Sunday/Monday this week, making for a really wet August. Fortunately things should dry out over the next several days, just in time for planting some of the last fall crops. Despite the rain, my tomatoes are finally ripening in bigger numbers. But If you are planning to get some to can or freeze, it’ll still be a few weeks before I have bulk quantities to box and sell. Tomatoes on my table this week will include heirlooms, red slicers, roma (or sauce tomatoes), orange and red saladettes, and a mix of red, sungold, and grape cherry tomatoes. Pick up some tomatillos to make delicious, tangy salsa verde. I’ll have jalapenos, cilantro, and white onions to complete the recipe. I should also have a reasonable supply of green beans again this week. Other items to consider cooking with include eggplant, zucchini, baby fennel, celery, bunched red beets, green bell and Italian frying peppers, shishito peppers, Italian bottle onions, kale, Swiss chard, amaranth greens, basil, dill, thyme, and parsley. For salads I’ll have cucumbers (going strong for a few more weeks), baby lettuce heads, a limited amount of salad mix, and hopefully some arugula. Check Facebook on Friday for an update on my “greens” situation. See you Saturday!

Did you notice all the painters in town last week? Paint the Point had a fabulous turnout! Mineral Point is such an incredible artist's town and the Mineral Point Market is no different!
We've got many great artists committed to the market. Each week you can visit with them and check our their wonderful products in Water Tower Park. The market has Jan Johnson who paints beautiful water color, Joni Martin a fabulous scrapbook artist with cards, gifts, and boxes, Susan Marr who makes festive doll clothes for 18" dolls, and Wayne Banaszak a talented wood craft artisan. And to bring it all together the Mineral Point Market has two magnificient flower vendors, Divisions Cut Flower Farm & Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China, who create art out of their gardens.

SWEET CORN IS HERE! We're so happy to be picking our fabulous bi-color corn. It tastes absolutely delicious and can't wait to share it with you this Saturday! We'll also have more of our slender and delicious green beans as well as more new red potatoes and golden sunflowers. Strawberry lemonade is gone for the year but we've still got our Pure Wisconsin Maple Syrup, Local Honey, and Frozen Cream of Asparagus Soup (bring your coolers). Many of you know us as the little spot next to Tequila Point. We thought it might be nice to share a taste of the café with you all. Tim & Richard, myself, and Richard’s mom have been working on some sweet and savory offerings (several of which are café favorites). All of our recipes are scratch made in small batches right down the street in the kitchen of the Old Royal Inn. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! We will also be serving hot and cold Colectivo coffee (roasted in Milwaukee and served in the café). Thank you for stopping by. We look forward to a wonderful season! We will be offering sweet and savory treats scratch made in small batches at the Old Royal Inn (many of which are favorites in the café). The Excellence in Education (EIE) Endowment Fund
The Excellence in Education (EIE) Endowment Fund raises money to support
students and teachers in the Mineral Point School District. EIE presently
has a raffle happening to raise funds. They are raffling off five Pointer Bins. The bins will be at the Mineral Point Market on a table next to Scrappin with Joni space. Tickets are $5 or 5 tickets/$20. Please stop by and check out these fun bins.
Farmers' Daughter
Hello everyone! It will be good to be back to see all of you after a couple weeks off! We will be back with our usual run of muffins, scones, bars, a few muffin breads and more! Sam and Carly are excited, too, to see all of you before school starts on September 3rd. Hope to see you Saturday!

Shooting Star Farm
Wet August weather sure has things looking green and lush this year (if muddy). I’ve had an amazing summer crop of cucumbers, zucchini and summer squash, and basil, but they are beginning to taper off just a bit. So enjoy during the next 2 -4 weeks because they’ll be gone before we know it! August crops such as peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes are finally coming in on my farm. It’s a great time to enjoy all these vegetables (along with sweet corn) pretty much every day of the week. This is what I hope to have on Saturday: green beans, eggplant, zucchini and summer squash (including pattypan), cucumbers, green Italian frying peppers, green bell peppers, jalapeno and poblano peppers, shishito peppers, tomatillos, a mixture of red, heirloom, sauce, and cherry tomatoes (still limited quantities), red beets, celery, cilantro, basil, parsley, dill, thyme, salad mix (limited), lettuce heads (limited), amaranth (callaloo), purple Italian bottle onions, white onions, a bit of broccoli, and possibly some arugula. Tippy Top Orchard
The Harrow Delight pears are ready to pick and Mike will be at the Mineral Point Market this Saturday with the first of his crop. Just a note about harvesting pears: They ripen from the inside out and must be picked underripe. Pears that feel soft on the tree will be overripe in the middle. Mike knows when to pick pears so they will ripen properly off the tree. When you purchase them at the farmers’ market, some may need a few extra days on the counter to fully ripen, but they are worth the wait. Harrow Delights are super sweet, juicy, and delicious! More pear varieties and apples will be coming as we get closer to fall.

When you shop at the Mineral Point Market, or any local farmers market, you are supporting local Wisconsin farmers, producers, cheese makers, bakers, and at our market local artisans. Typically farmers receive only 15 cents of every food dollar but when you shop at the MPM 100% of your food dollar goes directly to the producer thus making the Market a critical component to the economy of Wisconsin family farms. The MPM has 10+ family farms as members and another 10+ artisans. Thanks so much for your support of our community farms and their families!

Café 43 has a busy Saturday. We will be at the Market with coffee and a few pastries. Sorry, no breakfast sandwiches. Stop down at the Café for a breakfast buffet from 8-10. We will then close in order to support all of the activities of the PRIDE festival. Aids Memorial Quilt Display at BoyoyoBoy Gallery across from the Café, Artisan Raffle, Live Music and Drag Shows. Hi All! Just time for a quick note re: Market this Sat. Aug. 10. I will not be there as it is Corn Boil week-end in Cobb so I will be at the craft show here. Our luxurious soap is handcrafted in small batches in our Dodgeville kitchen of shea butter, goat's milk, and essential and/or fragrance oils. Produce from the farm this week will include lots of green beans, broccoli, green Italian sweet peppers (the elongated ones), beets, Swiss chard, kale, white onions, purple Italian bottle onions, cucumbers, bunched amaranth (aka “callaloo”), green butter lettuce, arugula, a bit of salad mix, gold and green zucchini, kohlrabi, cilantro, thyme, parsley, and basil. I will have a few tomatoes and eggplant this week. Hopefully a decent amount of both beginning next. If anyone needs pesto freezing quantities of basil, now’s the time!
