Week 22 - September 29th

Hello MP Market Goers!

Wow, lots going on this weekend in MP!  The Cornish Festival is in town this weekend!  There is also Pub night at Pendarvis, the Crowdy Crawn at Pendarvis, and the Taste of Mineral Point (which happens right after market in Water Tower Park)!  Whew, between all these events and the Mineral Point Market we are going to have full bellies!
On top of it all, it looks like the weather is going to be fabulous for the market this Saturday!  We still have some great stuff coming to market so be sure to stop out.  However, for some  of us the season is winding down so be sure to read through the vendor list so you can know what you need to stock up on when you get to market.
Thanks for coming out each week and supporting your local vendors and farmers!  We all really love and cherish this market and its' customers.  Your smiles and your love for local products is so very much appreciated!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Carey's Green House
My name is Delbert Carey and I was born and raised in Mineral Point.  I have many annuals that can be used in both container gardens and traditional growing spaces. Because of my time at Pendarvis, English garden favorites such as lilacs, hollyhocks, and hostas are also favorites of mine. I taught pre-school for eight years and learned just how much fun kids can have growing sunflowers and pumpkins. Finally I’ve always had a weakness for climbing vines such as morning glories and moon flowers.
My parents have enjoyed joining in on this little project and they helped me choose the name Carey’s Green House which is an inside joke. After forty-six years of living in the same white house, last summer my parents decided to paint the whole thing Green, and thus the bulk of my plants come from Carey’s green house. All of the plants we offer for sale are either annuals grown naturally from seeds or perennials that are either grown from seeds or grown from cuttings of plants that have grown in my parents gardens for the last 46 years.
I hope to see you all at the market!
Chestnut Hill Studio
Jan Johnson will be at the market this Saturday with prints, cards, market bags, and tiles showcasing favorite images plus some new ones. She will also mat and frame your print or hers and is always available to draw or paint your portrait, your pet, or your home.
DDP Beads
DDP Beads will be at market this week. Stop by to sneak a peek at one of a kind bracelets, necklaces, or sets of earrings to compliment that special clothing item in your wardrobe. So many designs, colors, shapes, sizes from which to choose. See you Saturday with a fresh assortment of bling things to compliment any occasion!

We have sold out for the season!  See you next spring have a wonderful fall and winter!  Check us out on http://evelynsgardensandgiftshop.com/
Fabric Fun and Then Some
I started "Fabric Fun and Then Some" during this long hot summer.  As a retired teacher and farm wife, I had time to recreate many hobby items - fabric boxes, denim and fabric aprons, quilted table runners, and painted clay pots.  I really enjoyed seeing many friends and meeting others at last week's market and am looking forward to this week as well.  Stop by for a visit! Nancy Harker
Farmer's Daughter's Kitchen
We will be back at market this week with our delicious line of pies, tarts, bars, and much more.  Be back on the 29th.  Hope to see you Saturday!  If you would like to pre-order give Becky a call at 608-293-4660.
Gough's Gorgeous Farm Goods
This week we have an abundant amount of our farm fresh eggs. We also have tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, peppers, watermelon, pie pumpkins, and squashes.
Head 2 Toe
Jeani and Pat Heisz own and operate the home business Head 2 Toe.  Jeani began dabbling in making therapeutic oil blends when trying to develop several natural oil blends for her nail and massage clients. They began requesting different blends for their various ailments like muscle soreness, headaches, and general aches and pains. The business grew from there.  They make a wide variety of products using pure essential oils and herbs. They make therapeutic oil blends, body oils, shower gels, face masks, aromatherapy wraps, room mists, fragrances and herbal teas.
James' Pine Valley Farm
I will be at market this week with CHICKEN WINGS, a variety of cheeses from Hooks and Brunkow cheese factories and several different cuts of chicken such as whole, half, leg and thigh quarters, and breast quarters.

Magic Light Photography
I will be at market this week selling a selection of my fine art nature and wildlife photography prints.  I have added several new prints to my collection since last fall so be sure to stop by and check them out.  Along with the prints I will also have several hand made photo greeting cards that are perfect for any occasion.  I also have a selection of bookmarks designed using many of my photos.  They make great gifts!  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com. Mission Abolition will be at market this week.  Mission Abolition creates schlep bags made from donated fabrics, which brings unique color and pattern designs to each bag.  All proceeds from the sales of these bags are donated to the Not For Sale organization, which works to end human trafficking and modern-day slavery.  Mission Abolition believes in raising awareness of the needs of people involved in human trafficking and modern-day slavery with a personal touch sewn into each bag.
P & M Gardens
We will be at the market this week Hosta, Peonies and Daylilies.
Shooting Star Farm

We got frost on both Saturday and Sunday nights. The cucumbers, beans, and some minor crops in the lower fields got hit, but most everything else was just nipped or survived altogether – including peppers and tomatoes. The tomato crop is nearly over because the plants are spent and the cool nights mean few ripened tomatoes, but we will have some for the Saturday. We’ll also have some beautiful orange and red sweet peppers and zucchini (primarily from the hoophouse). The basil also survived because it’s in our protected hoophouse and we covered it. Still time to make a little pesto for the freezer! There are lots of other great items for this week: broccoli, red and French breakfast radishes, salad mix, red, green, and bibb lettuce, baby arugula, salad turnips, kohlrabi, kale, Swiss chard, napa (Chinese) cabbage, green cabbage, bok choy, fennel, radicchio, spinach, and possibly some carrots. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.
Turtle Hill Wilds
Turtle Hill Wilds will not be at market for the rest of the season.  We all wear many hats in our quest to stay afloat in today's world, and our work hats as land stewards will take us away from Mineral Point for the rest of the season.  Please, contact us at our e-mail or phone number if interested in honey, honey creams, and jams for yourself, friends, and family during the upcoming holiday season.  We would love to accomodate your requests. Best! Cindy and Charles Ramseyer, 608-523-4213 naturekeep@tds.net

Other vendors included in the market:
Papa Bob's delicious homemade breads will be at market this week!
Mike Manogue will be back with more juicy pears and apples!

If you are interested in being a vendor, contact Jenny Bonde at starfarm@mhtc.net or Lois Federman at federman@charter.net.

Week 21 - September 22nd

Hello MP Market Goers!

Congratulations POINT 5 band of Mineral Point!  I was driving home from the Twin Cities last Sunday evening and who do I get to hear on Public Radio?  Our very own Mineral Point Celebrities.  You guys did great!

This week it has really begun to feel like fall!  We even had frost down here in our valley,  burr.  On the plus side...we can see the pumpkins now!  Things are changing quickly and there are just a handful of markets left, that is right just 5 markets left.  Some of us are expecting more frost this weekend which may put an end to precious things like tomatoes, peppers, raspberries, and basil.  Be sure to stock up!  Remember the market is open rain or shine, cold or hot, windy or calm, we will be there with beautiful and delicious products for your home and belly.

Speaking of bellies, here is a great recipe for chicken salsa chili that I like to make on those cold fall days with veggies and chicken from the market.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Matchbook Magnets
I will be back at the market this week with my magnets.  They are made using images from matchbooks my Dad collected during the golden age of matchbook advertising – the 1940s thru early 1960s.  I hear so many stories from market-goers who see a magnet that stirs a memory.  One of my favorites was from a lady who noticed a magnet for Effinger Beer which was brewed in Baraboo.  She told me her grandfather worked at the brewery, but not only that, he met his wife (and her grandmother) when he ran into her while driving the Effinger Beer delivery truck!  Email:  matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com  See you Saturday.  Cindy

It’s that time of year when summer crops overlap with fall crops. The warm weather has ripened a lot of new tomatoes this week, but I get the feeling they’ll be slowing down drastically with the very cool nights in the forecast. Take advantage while you can! Items for this week: Red tomatoes, paste tomatoes, heirlooms tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, gorgeous red and orange Italian sweet peppers, green and red bell peppers, Japanese eggplant, slicing cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, zucchini and summer squash, basil, red and green leaf lettuce, green bibb lettuce, salad mix, baby arugula, bok choy, kale, red and French breakfast radishes, bunched beets, baby leeks, fennel, onions, and garlic. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
