October 27th - Indoor Market at Aspen Ridge

Don’t want to see the Market end? Then come up to Aspen Ridge Home and Garden during usual Market hours and support some of your favorite vendors. The Mineral Point Market will be in the greenhouse along with the Schools for Haiti benefit and sale. There will be a limited number of Market vendors, but you can get your weekly supply of cheese, meats (huge sale at Marr's!), eggs, bakery, produce, and get some bulbs and perennials for fall planting. Thanks to Marsha Wyatt for hosting so many local organizations in her beautiful space!
Unfortunately, not all of our vendors are able to attend the indoor market. However, many of our vendors do offer products throughout winter so please check out the News Tab on the Mineral Point Market website for more info on your favorite vendors.

Here's who will be in attendance this week:

Farmer's Daughters
Hello everyone and what gorgeous weather we've been having!
Join us at Aspen Ridge this weekend for an indoor market and all the fun things happening at the greenhouse, too. Come for toasting bread, muffins, scones and bars of many kinds! We hope to see you there!
James' Pine-Valley Farm
I will be at the market this week with my usual cuts of chicken – wholes, halves, leg/thigh quarters and breast packages. Also available are neck packages, liver/heart packages and gizzard packages. Several kinds of cheese will be available but probably will not have any eggs. Mary
Marr's Valley View Farm
SAVE - SAVE - SAVE!!! STEAKS ON SPECIAL.
MPM is moving to it's fall location this week - Aspen Ridge Garden Center. Why celebrate with a special offering!
We can't say thank you enough for your incredible support of our farm with your purchases throughout the 2018 market season. As a result we are once again offering a CUSTOMER APPRECIATION SPECIAL on our top of the line steaks - NY Strip; Porterhouse; Ribeye; T-Bones all at $9.99. Wait for it - Beef Tenderloin Steaks at $14.99.
Due the extreme savings, this price is available ONLY at the Mineral Point Market this Saturday, October 27th.
Of course we still have our wide variety of Black Angus Beef and Pork products. How about a ham roast or smoked ham hock for ham-bean or split pea soup - nummmm!
We encourage you to pre-order or come to market early for the best selection. Thanks for your continued support and we look forward to servicing your needs with our full line of Pork and Angus Beef products. See you Saturday at our Fall location. All of us at Marr's Valley View Farms
Shooting Star Farm
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Aspen Ridge this Saturday for our extended indoor Market! The quantity of produce is winding down – especially with last Saturday’s windy and frigid temps turning some plants to mush.  But I still have some nice variety. Lettuce from the hoophouse is gorgeous! It can be difficult to think “I want lettuce” when the temps are chilly, but fall is a great time to keep eating your greens! I’ll have mostly large heads of green butter, romaine, red leaf, green leaf, as well as few small mixed varieties. Salad mix and spinach will also be available in limited quantities. In addition, look for celery, Swiss chard, curly and lacinato kale, celery root, winter radishes (gorgeous, and a great substitute for bunched radishes), salad turnips (finally back!), scallions, leeks, carrots, cilantro, napa cabbage, kohlrabi, winter squash (mostly butternut), onions, shallots, cilantro, thyme, and possibly the last of the sweet peppers. See you Saturday!
Uplands Garden Club
The Uplands Garden Club will be offering several varieties of bulbs from their fall bulb sale. Money from the sale supports presenters for the meetings and grants for gardens in the area. Mineral Point Library, Soldier’s Memorial Park, Orchard Lawn, Shake Rag Alley, and Mineral Point Elementary School have benefited from these grants as well as other area organizations.
The educational programs are open to the public; the next program will be November 7th at 7pm at Stonefield Manor in Dodgeville featuring Megan Cain, Creative Vegetable Gardener from Madison.
So, come to Aspen Ridge Home and Garden and buy your bulbs for spring color in your garden and support a great cause. Planting directions will be included. For further information, contact Harriet Ridnour.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Aspen Ridge Home & Garden, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

October 20th - Week 25

Hello MP Market Goers!

Congratulations to Keith Burrows winner of last week's market basket giveaway!

There's lots to talk about this week! Not only is it the weekend of the Fall Art Tour but it's also our final outdoor market of the season! So before you head out to enjoy the local art be sure to stop up in Water Tower Park to stock up and prepare your pantry, freezer, and gift closet for winter.
In addition to our regular vendors, representatives from the Mineral Point Opera House will be at market as well as the Uplands Garden Club. Looking to add color to your spring garden? Check out the selection of bulbs the garden club has for sale this Saturday!
Another bit of good news is that Aspen Ridge has once again agreed to let the market move indoors to their greenhouse! So we'll have a few more weeks of providing you with great locally grown and crafted products! However, please note that while some of the vendors will be moving indoors not all of them are able to do so. Therefore, if there's something you need from market be sure to stop up Saturday.

Last outdoor Market of the season! Rink will be tending the stand along with some helpers so I go off on a short adventure with my sisters and Charlie. Stop by and say “hi”! I finally got some good, hard frost here this past week. A few tender greens got zapped – not so much by the frost, but by the dehydrating wind. It caught me off guard, so I won’t have any salad mix or arugula this week, but may have some next week. On the other hand, lettuce from the hoophouse is beautiful. Look for romaine, red leaf, green butter, and a mix of baby heads. Other items on the table will include winter radishes, celery root, celery, orange and rainbow carrots, fennel bulbs, scallions, leeks, cilantro, napa cabbage, kohlrabi, winter squash (butternut, delicata, and honey nut), lots of onions, shallots, popcorn, and the last of the sweet peppers. Lots of fun stuff at the last outdoor Market this weekend, so don’t miss it!
Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China
Mother Nature has had her way and my flowers have finished for this year.  Thank you all for your support this season. I so appreciate being part of this amazing market and will miss our getting together every Saturday morning.  Thank you for a great market and see you next Spring.

Looks like frost is truly on the way. I’ve been scrambling to get some frost sensitive crops out of the field in between the rain drops. Saturday’s market should be brisk, but sunny for a change, so come on out and stock up on butternut squash. I’ll have plenty! Also delicata an honeynut squash. The table will have a splattering of lots of other items, some in good quantity and others on their way out. Here’s what I’m hoping for: leeks, yellow and red onions, shallots, scallions, broccoli (mostly smaller side-shoots), Romanesco broccoli, napa cabbage, regular and Kossack (large) kohlrabi, winter radishes, red and French breakfast radishes, celery root, celery, a mixture of small and large sweet peppers in all stages of color, possibly some eggplant, cucumbers, cilantro, dill, thyme, oregano, Swiss chard, kale (2 types), baby lettuce heads, salad mix (limited), orange and rainbow-colored carrots, and possibly beets. See you Saturday!
Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China
I do believe I will not be at the market this week between all the rain and partial frost my flowers are suffering. However, there are buds underneath so I am thinking if I baby my plants through this weekend's frost I will have flowers next weekend! Going to try.

I am booked for every Saturday in October, so I won’t be back at Market until next year.  Looking forward to Mineral Point Market 2019.    ~Joni
Shooting Star Farm
Fall is definitely in the air. So is moisture. We got another 4 ½ inches of rain this last week, most of it falling Saturday and Sunday. I’m amazed there’s no standing water anywhere in the fields, but those carrots are hardly recognizable when they come out of the ground. Not a spec of orange shows under all the muck. But they do taste good. So I’ll have carrots! And lots of other items except for tomatoes. They are basically done for the season. No frost last weekend, but the humidity has done them in. Here’s my hoped-for weekend list: Salad mix, mixed baby lettuce heads, spinach, red and French breakfast radishes, winter radishes, carrots, beets, napa cabbage, cucumbers, red and orange sweet peppers, delicata squash, butternut squash, honeynut squash, leeks, yellow, red, and bottle onions, shallots, cilantro, dill, oregano, thyme, kohlrabi, celery, celeriac, and small heads of bok choy. No arugula this week. See you Saturday - rain or shine!
Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China
I will unable to be at the market this week as my brother is getting married this weekend in Appleton. Hope to see you next week!
Tippy Top Orchards
Mike is back at market this fall with pears and apples!
Wayne’s Woodworking and Engraving
We will not be attending this Saturday’s market. See you next week. I'm a small local woodworking shop specializing in a variety of handcrafted and engraved products. We will be displaying a variety of handcrafted cherry and butternut baskets, engraved wooden breadboards, rulers and key fobs. We will also be demonstrating our needlework frames, a lap table and hand knit designer scarves. Wayne Banaszak
