July 20th - Week 12

Hello MP Market Goers!

•  THE MINERAL POINT MARKET IS HIRING!
Do you like to promote community activities? Are you a wizard with social media and FB LIVE! Do you have a sense for business? Are you proficient with a smart phone and computer programs? If so the Mineral Point Market is looking for YOU! We are searching for a person to manage and execute our marketing, promotion and outreach activity for the remainder of the 2019 Market season. This is a paid position, beginning immediately and runs through end of Market season. A minimum of 5 to 7 hours each week will be required. If interested in more details e-mail federman@charter.net by no later than Monday, July 22nd.

Market is gearing up with summer produce! Cucumbers and Zucchini and Green Beans are all starting to come in strong! Our fields are finally starting to catch up after the cool, wet spring. Tomatoes are flowering and beginning to set fruit, Sweet corn is tasseling and the Pumpkins are stretching to their full potential. Pastures are plentiful with the rains and now heat. But as farmers we've got to watch our animals closely in this high heat. Egg and milk production can decrease greatly during high heat. There's always a balance!

Come check out what the scales have given us this week to fill your dinner table.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:
Beef, Pork, Bacon, Chicken, Cheese, Eggs, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Bunched White Onions, Bunched Beets, Carrots, Kale, Swiss Chard, Kohlrabi, Fennel Bulb, Cilantro, Dill, Basil, Parsley, Lettuce, Salad Mix, Green Beans, Potatoes, Maple Syrup, Honey, Soup, Beautifully Designed Flower Bouquets, Coffee, Sweet and Savory Baked Goods, Watercolor Paintings, Prints & Cards, Gift Boxes, Chair Massages, Wood Crafts, Kids Activities, and much more. Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday in Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Hi All!   I guess if we thought it was hot last week, we were quite wrong....... according to what is predicted for this week, anyway. I did go to Market last Sat.(much to the surprise of many!) and was able to hang on in the heat.  But this week I think I will be at home in Cobb.  If the forecast changes any for the better I will attempt it again but as of now, I'm saying not.  If you do need a quick gift and I'm not there, please feel free to call me at 623-2592 and we can set up a time for you to shop at my house.  Do keep in mind it IS a crafting house and fabric WILL meet you at the front door!!  Do Keep Cool!!!    Mummu

Start looking up recipes for cucumbers and zucchini! I should have plenty this week. Both are producing like mad with the heat and need to be picked nearly every day. A new item this week will be fresh, bunched white onions. The onion and the nice part of the greens are both usable. I like to cook the onion tops with zucchini slices, fresh basil, olive oil and salt and pepper. Toss with pasta or eat by alone. Yum! The first green beans are finally appearing. My harvest for Saturday will likely be small, but I’ll bring what I can. Other items this week include bunched beets, carrots, kale, Swiss chard, kohlrabi, fennel bulb, cilantro, dill, basil, and parsley. The heat and humidity this past week (or two) makes it challenging to grow greens. However, I will have some smaller mixed lettuce heads and romaine, along with a limited amount of salad mix. Not sure if I’ll be able to get enough arugula to offer it separately from the salad mix, but I’ll try. See you Saturday!

Shooting Star Farm
It’s been a busy week of trellising plants, taking down old trellises (goodbye sugar snap peas), planting fall crops, and weeding the summer ones in between the rain. I’ve mentioned to several customers that my tomatoes will be late this year due to some infrastructure issues with one of the hoophouses, but I will have lots of variety and quantity if the weather cooperates. But on to this week. I’ll be bringing the first of the summer squash and zucchini, and kohlrabi will be back. It’s the larger “Kossack” variety this time. Other items are similar to last week: bunched red and white beets, bunched carrots, red radishes (hopefully more than last week), arugula, salad mix, cucumbers (a bit limited), kale, Swiss chard, cilantro, parsley, dill, basil, red and green cabbage, bunched scallions, fennel bulbs with tops, broccoli sprouts, and assorted small lettuce heads. No large lettuces this week.  It will be a nice morning with lots of vendors, so we’ll see you Saturday!

July 6th - Week 10

Hello MP Market Goers!

Happy 4th Of July!
Mineral Point is a special kind of town! It's a town where people get together and celebrate community, commitment, and spirit. And the 4th of July is no different. From the run at eight o'clock this morning to the parade on High Street at eleven with Steak Lunch at noon and the ice cream social at six then music and fireworks. It's a community where we work, eat, play, and relax together. One of the best I'd say.
One of the ways you can enjoy being in such a community is by coming up to Water Tower Park Saturday mornings to enjoy the Mineral Point Market. There you're able to learn about working businesses in the community, relax with friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee and a breakfast treat, bring home some beautiful artisan products for your home, and fill your fridge with great deliciously fresh, healthy products to feed your friends and family with.
With all that's going on this weekend, we hope you'll carve out a little time for market this Saturday morning.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:
Beef, Pork, Bacon, Chicken, Cheese, Eggs, Lettuce, Cucumbers, Carrots, Beets, Scallions, Kale, Swiss Chard, Cabbage, Curly Endive, Basil Tops, Parsley, Oregano, Cilantro, Dill, Sugar Snap Peas, Radishes, Strawberries, Potatoes, Maple Syrup, Honey, Asparagus Soup, Beautifully Designed Flower Bouquets, Coffee, Sweet and Savory Baked Goods, Watercolor Paintings, Prints & Cards, Chair Massages, Wood Crafts, Kids Activities, and much more. Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday in Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

We will be offering sweet and savory treats scratch made in small batches at the Old Royal Inn (many of which are favorites in the café). We will also be serving hot and cold brewed Colectivo coffee (roasted in Milwaukee).

Farmers' Daughter
Hello everyone! Thank you to those of you who braved the heat and joined us last weekend. Phew! This has been some stretch of heat and sun and rain. My mom, Helen, will be making an appearance at market this weekend, as I have another engagement to cater. Stop by and say "hi!" This week we will have our scones, muffins, cookies, dessert bars and more! I'm hoping to add bread soon, but the humidity and yeast don't get along well; so we'll need to have a break in the weather. And remember, orders are always welcome. Hope to hear that you came out Saturday!
James' Pine-Valley Farm
We will have our usual items again this week - whole chicken, half chicken, leg/thigh packages and breast packages.  Also gizzards and hearts and livers.  With the Father's Day coming up why not try a half chicken on the grill.  A great way to enjoy the day along with your favorite side dishes.  We will also have many cheese varieties along with several dozen eggs.  Happy Father's Day!    Ralph and Mary Jean, James Pine Valley Farm

Shooting Star Farm
Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July! The heat is finally breaking and we should have a nice day for Market. This last week’s weather has been a bit hard on some of the leafy greens. My huge patch of spinach suffered wind and rain damage on Sunday. I was able to harvest some, but only about a quarter of the patch survived. Same with the arugula and greens that are added to the salad mix. I will have some straight arugula and plenty of salad mix – the mix will just be light on ingredients other than baby lettuce. On the plus side, cucumbers are coming along nicely! Should have plenty for Saturday. Plus I’ll be digging carrots and bunching them. They’ll be on the small-ish side, but should taste great. Other items this week include baby and large lettuce heads, bunched red beets, scallions, curly and Lacinato kale, Swiss chard, red and green cabbage, curly endive (friseé), basil tops, parsley, oregano, cilantro, and dill (the latter two with some heads forming but still very useable), and a small amount of sugar snap peas and red radishes. Zucchini is so close, but probably ready next week. See you Saturday!
Usborne Books and More with Katie
Hi! I'm sponsoring a kids activity corner once a month for your kids to play and learn within your view at market. While at market you can browse my wide range of children’s books related to plants, animals, farming and cooking. These books are a great way to bond with your kids and get them involved in all of the wonderful things related to fresh food and farmers markets! Throughout the summer my booth will carry a different theme, and at times portions of my proceeds will go to benefit local groups and organizations.  You can always shop my link online or contact me directly if you don’t see what you’re looking for at the booth https://d8159.myubam.com/1240701 or benishk4@gmail.com.
