Week 1 - May 2, 2009

Saturdays - May through October - Water Tower Park - Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street - 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Rain or Shine - Cold or Hot - Breezy or Calm - We'll be there!

Hello MP Market goers! We are thrilled it's market season and are looking forward to seeing everyone again. All of the "old faithfuls" are back vending in full force plus you'll see some friendly new faces as the season goes on.

The vendor lineup is as follows:

Blooming Valley
"Happy Spring Everyone!! We're so glad it's finally here. We are very excited to be back at the Mineral Point Market this year, but unfortunately, we won't be there this week. The cooler weather has set our plants back, and we don't have enough plant material ready to bring on Saturday. We are hoping to be there the following week though, and every weekend after that with our perennials, ornamental grasses and shrubs. Have an awesome market! We're looking forward to seeing you all soon!! Ina and Doug Lukas (http://www.bloomingvalley.com/)."

Bures Berry Patch
Bures Berry Patch will once again be at the Mineral Point Farmers Market this year! However, with such a cold spring this year we do not have anything to offer out of our gardens yet. In the future we will offer a wide range of fruits and vegetables. Within the next week or so we will have some fresh picked, homegrown asparagus that is deliciously tender. We might also be bringing some of our first cuttings of rhubarb. If you have not heard of us before we are famous for our strawberries which will be coming on sometime in June. At the patch you are able to pick your own berries or we can pick them for you, nothing tastes better than a juicy, warm strawberry. Later in the season we offer raspberries, which are another delicious treat from the patch. Then we will have sweet corn that is perfect for the summer cookout. Fall raspberries will also come out around this time which make this crop doubly-good since we can offer them for an extended period of time. In October, we finish our season at the patch with a fantastic selection of pumpkins of all different shapes and color as well as gourds, squash, and Indian corn. If you would like to learn more about Bures Berry Patch please introduce yourself to Ed and Kathy at the market, or feel free to give us a call at 608-924-1404, or visit our website at http://www.buresberrypatch.com/. We hope to see you in the patch soon!

Chestnut Hill Studio
I'm back with cards, prints, trivets, tiles, t-shirts and market bags featuring fruits, veggies, flowers and and occasional critter. Count on me to be there unless its wet and rainy, (paper products don't do well in the rain). Jan.

Cook's Woods
Our maple syrup production this spring was slightly less than average, but our maple open house event attendance was way above average. Many people came to see how we make our maple syrup and sample some maple recipes. If you have not acquired your maple syrup supply for this year we can help. Dave will attend this week's market. He will have glass bottles in sizes from 8 oz to 32 oz and maple leaf shaped gift bottles in the 100 ml size. Our prices are listed on our website, http://www.cookswoods.biz/, along with our contact information so you may order ahead and we will bring your order to the next market that we attend, or arrange for delivery or pickup at our farm. Barb and Dave.

Green Woman Herbs
Greetings of the spring from Green Woman Herbs! We will be at the market this Saturday with fragrant and flavorful herbs for you to add to your vegetable garden or plant in that pretty pot by your doorstep. Of course we will have parsley, basil, oregano, sage, thyme, rosemary and mint. But look for the more unusual but fun to grow things like Spanish lavender with its little rabbit ears or the intensely fragrant lemon verbena. Try growing heliotrope, Victorian favorite because of its vivid blue flowers and sweet vanilla fragrance or pick up a 4-pack of dainty Sorbet Coconut Swirl violas which are both edible and a great addition to a planter. See you on Saturday. Diane.

Herb, Spices and More
Bob is back! Yes - Papa Bob in the flesh returns to Market this Saturday with his highly sought after line of breads and more. If anyone wants to pre-order for market give Bob a call, 608-723-9000, or send him an e-mail at hsm1@execpc.com.

James Godfrey
James will be back at market with his self-authored children's books later in the May.

James' Pine Valley Farm
Pine Valley Farm welcomes you to MP Farmers' Market 2009! This week we will have lots of farm fresh eggs, plenty of and many varieties of cheese both from Hooks Cheese of Mineral Point and Brunkow Cheese of Fayette, and, of course, CHICKEN - whole, halves and leg/thigh quarters. Hope to see you on Saturday. Mary Jean.

Magic Light Photography
Welcome back to the market everyone! I'm very excited to be back to the market this year with a selection of my photography. I have been keeping busy creating new images over the last several months. Again this year I will have a large selection of photo greeting cards at the market. All of the cards are hand made and signed by me. They are blank in side and can be used for any occasion. They will make a perfect mother's day card! I will also have a selection of matted prints in various sizes available. They will look great as a decoration for your home, or they make great gifts as well. New products from last fall are bookmarks. I have 10 different designs all featuring my photos. They make great gifts! I also have a few 2009 calendars available at a discount. If you can't wait for the Market on Saturday, you will find my cards and a couple of framed prints available at the Collections shop on High Street in Mineral Point. I have a larger selection of both framed, and matted prints available at Phoebe's Nest, also on High St. in Mineral Point. If you're in the Platteville area, I have two pieces on display at the Badger Brothers Coffee Shop. I also have two pieces on display at the Roundtree Gallery. You can also view my work at http://www.magiclightphotography.com/ I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday! Mike.

Marr's Valley View Farms
Welcome back everyone! It's been a long time since we've seen many of you and are looking forward to Saturday. We've been busy throughout the winter working to enhance our meat product line for you. We will have a limited amount of a new pork sausage in bulk and link form, made with organic seasoning from a new processor we are working with. Anxious to see what you think of these items. Can't live without our meats but getting to market weekly is a challenge? Join our "meat CSA" - ask us for details at market. We will have our full beef and pork product line available for purchase this week. Everything from ground meats to top of the line steaks. Don't forget to pick up one of our informational brochures that are sure to build your confidence when cooking meats you purchase from Marr's Valley View Farms. Need a large quantity or can't make it to market Saturday morning - please call, 608-987-2097, and we will make other arrangements for your order. We encourage you to pre-order or come to market early for the best selection. Thanks for your continued support and we look forward to servicing your needs throughout 2009. Mike, Lois and Doral.

P & M Gardens, LLC
A new year has started. We are thankful for each warm day we get. We will be at the market May 2nd and May 9th. We will not be attending the Farmers' Market on May 16th as that is the day of the Uplands Garden Club plant sale. However, if there is a Daylily, Hosta or Peony that you want to purchase give me a call and I will get them for you and bring them to next Farmers' Market. I have a listing for each category and can bring them to the following weeks' Farmers' Market. We have several new items in each category. Looking forward to seeing everyone this spring. Pat and Cecil. P&M Gardens, LLC.

Shooting Star Farm
Hurrah! Market season is back! Although it’s been a relatively cool, wet spring, we’ll have a few vegetables to get things going. From outdoors we’ll have spinach and rhubarb. The spinach is over-wintered (planted last October). It survived quite well and should be ready for harvest on Friday. Our hoop house plantings are a bit behind, but we will have plenty of French Breakfast radishes. That’ll be all for this week. Hopefully arugula and salad turnips for next week, followed shortly by salad mix and heads of lettuce. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.

The Spotted Dog
I will be at the market with coffee and pastries!! The Spotted Dog.

New vendors are ALWAYS welcome at the Mineral Point Market! If you know anyone that might enjoy selling at the market or perhaps you yourself would, please contact Jenny Bonde at starfarm@mhtc.net or call 608-967-2319, or myself, for details.

Hope to see you Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.
