Week 24 - October 15th

Hello MP Market goers!

The last Mineral Point Market of the season is here, though there are some rumblings of continuing indoors so keep your eyes and ears open for more information! Just a reminder, due to the construction in Library Park we will NOT be having our final market of the season in Library Park. Instead, it will be in Watertower Park as it is every week.

Congratulations to Leslie Damaso winner of the final market basket giveaway!

I feel so fortunate that we have such a wonderful market in Mineral Point that provides us with fresh, local products for twenty-four weeks out of the year (maybe even longer if you managed to get some of it in your freezer)! I am also so grateful I am a vendor there and that I get to spend my Saturday mornings with all of you. Thank you so much for your support and interest in all the vendors at the market! We hope you have a wonderful winter and that we see you again next spring, if not before!

Lots to do this weekend with the art fair in town, so come on out early to market to get all your needs and some of your wants too! The weather looks as though it will cooperate this weekend and give us some sun once again, though it may be a bit chilly first thing in the morning. We are expecting a few extra vendors Saturday, lots to look at and marvel over plus lots of tasty things for your enjoyment!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Lonesome Stone Milling
The 2011 grain harvest is coming in plentiful and tasty, come out and sample our pancake mix. News from the Lonesome Stone Mill in Lone Rock is that the Mary Ellen Carter a.k.a. Super Clipper 29 D is noisy and busy cleaning the July harvest. Whole Wheat Bread Flour, using 2011 Hard Red Winter Wheat from Dave Dolan's rural Dodgeville farm bakes up a fine hearty loaf. And, our Whole Wheat Pastry Flour , using 2011 Soft Red Winter Wheat from Tom Martin's Wauzeka farm, is especially good for crumbly applications i.e. cookies, cakes and pie crust.
New from the mill: Lonesome Stone Cornbread Mix, organically grown by Farmer Dave Dolan, blended with our Taliesen Whole Wheat Flour. Add some market eggs, a stick of butter and milk and you're good to go.
The 30" Meadows Grist Mill continues to work through the 2010 Taliesen Wheat. Step up to the griddle for our famous Lonesome Stone Pancake Mix. Put a warm flapper in your hand as the autumn chill comes to market Saturday morning. And, ask for a song from the pancake lady.

Marr's Valley View Farms
This week is the last scheduled outdoor Market of 2011. THANK YOU to all of you, our loyal customers for supporting both us and the Market. We would not be here without you. I've been saying it for a few weeks, but NOW is the time to give serious thought to stocking up on your favorite cuts. Marr's Valley View Farms offers a wide variety of high quality, flavorful, Pork and Black Angus Beef products available for your eating enjoyment. Or consider joining our Meat CSA for the Winter. Ask us on Saturday for details and how to join. A friendly reminder that our meats are available 7 days a week, year round, with just an e-mail or phone call. Yes, we've even come to the rescue on Christmas as a result of a somewhat overdone roast! The season for favorite home cooked meals is upon us. We are fully stocked with great roasts ready for the slow cooker. Pair with some veggies and potatoes from our fellow Market vendors and you are all set for a comforting home cooked meal. Remember - when you dine on Marr's Valley View Farms meats, rest assured you are eating naturally lean meats - fresh pork and beef products direct from a local farm to you. The only stop in-between us and the consumer is a State or USDA inspected processing facility. If you are ready to stock up or just want to pre-order for pick-up at market, e-mail your order to federman@charter.net by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14th. See you Saturday a.m. - Lois & Doral.

Magic Light Photography
I will not be at the market this weekend. Instead, I will have a display of my work at the Mineral Point Artist Annex at 114 High Street. There I will have a large selection of matted nature and wildlife prints, ready for framing in many different sizes. I will also have a large selection of hand made greeting cards featuring many of my favorite images. All of my cards are blank inside and are great for any occasion. I have a selection of bookmarks designed using many of my photos. If you have any questions about photography, please stop by and ask. You can also view my work at http://www.magiclightphotography.com/. Thanks, Mike.

Mission Abolition
Mission Abolition will be here this week. We create schlep bags made from donated fabrics, which brings unique color and pattern designs to each bag. All proceeds from the sales of these bags are donated to the Not For Sale organization, which works to end human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Mission Abolition believes in raising awareness of the needs of people involved in human trafficking and modern-day slavery with a personal touch sewn into each bag. Look for them in weeks to come.

Nana’s Salsa Fresca
Our salsa recipes have been in our family for generations, they are a table favorite for both family and friends. We make a red salsa with fresh jalapenos, a green salsa with fresh Serrano peppers and on occasion we will make a corn salsa, as well as a fresh fruit salsa. The flavors are fresh and vibrant. One taste and you can’t stop. Rob & Natalie Hanke

P & M Gardens
P & M Gardens will not be at the market this week. This is the best time of the year to plant your perennials, the ground is warm and the roots get off to a good start for next spring. In the spring when we get excited about our gardens the ground is cold, this means the plants start slowly and do not produce as well the first year they are planted. We have Peonies, Hosta, and Daylilies ready to plant this fall please give us a call, 608-930-9442 or e-mail us at patcecil@MHTC.net.

Rockwell Ridge Bakery
I will not be here this week. Sorry, work got too hectic for me these past few weeks. Hopefully next year I will be back with my homemade baked goods including items like brownies, crumb cake and scones, prepared salads and sides, jams, fruit sauces and fresh apple cider in the fall. All of the products are based on things I love and items grown on our farm, Rockwell Ridge. We are located just a couple miles outside of Dodgeville and have fruit trees, berries and vegetables that are all grown without pesticides or herbicides. I make everything I sell with joy and passion and look forward to sharing it with you.

Shooting Star Farm
We’ll continue to have big, beautiful heads of lettuce for Saturday’s market. Most years it’s usually done around the 15th of October, but with no mention of frost in the current forecast, it’s still growing and doing fine. Salad mix and baby arugula are looking great, too. This week we’ll have lots of French breakfast radishes, maybe a few red ones, and some baby white turnips. The turnips are a somewhat different variety than our usual, but are still considered a salad turnip and are delicious raw or cooked. Items in the cabbage family include kale, green cabbage, savoy cabbage, napa cabbage and romanesco broccoli. You’ve got to see the romanesco - it’s amazing to look at! The taste and texture is more like cauliflower than broccoli. We’ll have bunched beets, Swiss chard, parsley, sage, red and yellow onions, shallots, leeks, and maybe even a few peppers and tomatoes. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.

Supreme Seafood
Molly has moved to Flordia)-:. Hopefully, we will be able to continue her line of seafood next season. Good luck Molly!

Tippy Top Orchard
Delicious homegrown organic apples are on the menu at Tippy Top!

Other vendors we know to be coming include:
Mary Jean James will be here this week with eggs, chicken, and cheese.
Papa Bob will be here this week selling delicious breads, coffee, and soups!

Week 23 - October 8th

Hello MP Market goers!

Only 2 weeks left of the Mineral Point Market in Watertower Park! Just a reminder, due to the construction in Library Park we will NOT be having our final market of the season in Library Park. Instead, it will be in Watertower Park as it is every week.

Just two markets left! I can not believe how quickly this season has gone. Thank you so much for all your support of the Mineral Point Market! Without you there would be no market! I personally have such a great time at market, I will surely miss it over the winter. That being said, there are two left and this is the 2nd weekend in October so that means it is MARKET BASKET GIVEAWAY WEEKEND! Be sure to sign up by Marr's to win a free basket full of market goodies, it's your last chance to win this season!

Wow we sure have lucked out with the weather! We've had a couple of frosts down here in our valley but it sounds like Shooting Star Farm managed to escape the last one unscathed! Therefore, there will still be lots of options this week! Shooting Star Farm will still have some tomatoes! Bures Berry Patch will be back with their beautiful selection of pumpkins, gourds, squash, and Indian corn. Marr Valley View Farm and Mary Jean James will be back from a weekend off. And I am thinking a few other vendors that have been at shows recently will be back with us again! So come on out to market where you can eat fresh, local, and know your farmer as well as your artist.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.
