Week 22 - Oct. 3, 2009

Rain - Rain - Rain. Unfortunately it's put a damper on the MPHS Homecoming activities this evening.

The count down is on - including this week, 3 markets remain in the 2009 season! Time to stock up for those comforting homemade winter meals.

We are pleased to advise that we have two new vendors this week.

Help us extend a warm Mineral Point Market Welcome to first time vendors, Bill & Joy Exner, from Mounds View Gardens of Brigham Township near Barneveld with their wine grape varieties. Kristen Foley May returns this week, as she does each and every fall, with her Indian corn and more. Read details about both vendors in their listings below.

This week's vendor lineup is as follows:

Bures Berry Patch
Bures Berry Patch will be at market again this week but not next week so be sure to stop by and get your fall decorations this Saturday! This week we will once again be bringing our unmatched selection of pumpkins, gourds, and other fall decorations. We will also have winter squash and we may have some MORE RED RASPBERRIES! In October, we finish our season at the patch with a fantastic selection of pumpkins of all different shapes and colors as well as gourds, squash, Indian corn, straw bales, and corn stalks. The patch is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays we offer FREE HAYRIDES from 11 am to 5 pm. If you would like to learn more about Bures Berry Patch please introduce yourself to Ed and Kathy at the market, or feel free to give us a call at 608-924-1404, or visit our website at www.buresberrypatch.com. We hope to see you in the patch soon!

Chestnut Hill Studio
Jan returns with new T-shirt patterns and colors. I will also have cards, prints, trivets, tiles and market bags featuring fruits, veggies, flowers and an occasional critter. Jan.

Cooks' Woods
Except for some gift bottles, we are almost out of maple syrup. As such, we will not be attending the market anymore this year. We appreciate your interest in locally produced foods, including real maple syrup. Check out our website http://www.cookswoods.biz/ to see what’s happening around our farm at Christmas time. We hope to see you then or next spring when the maple sap starts to flow. Dave & Barb.

Week 21 - Sept. 26, 2009

The calendar says September but after that incredible rain the lawns and pastures say it's May! The trees in my back yard are shouting October with their accessorizes of red, gold, and translucent greens. Last Sunday a trip to Soldiers Grove and Gays Mills hinted at Mother Nature's paint brush just beginning to dance across the tree tops. If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing, not too lengthy car ride, the hillsides along highways 60/61/133 will soon be engulfed in fall colors. And of course there are few communities as beautiful as our own when fall comes to play. We are so blessed to live in the Driftless Region.

The count down is on - 4 markets remain to the 2009 season! Time to stock up for those comforting homemade winter meals. This week's vendor lineup is as follows:

Bures Berry Patch

Shooting Star Farm

Well, we’ve finally gotten the dreaded late blight in our tomato patch. It just became apparent a few days ago, and so far is on only a few plants of the 400 + in our fields. It shouldn't be much of a problem this week, but we’ve heard stories of whole fields of tomatoes dying in less than a week. Our hoophouse tomatoes still look fine, so we’ll continue to have lots of red tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. Although the tomato crop has been poor this year, we have lots of other terrific crops. We’ve been bringing cured onions, both sweet white and red Italian bottle types to market. They’re terrific cooked with our eggplant and sweet peppers. Look for the elongated Italian sweet red peppers, green bell peppers, and yellow/red Romanian frying peppers. Add some basil and you’ve got dinner. We should have plenty of salad mix, beets, fennel, Swiss chard, kale, collards, salad turnips (mild and delicious!), a small amount of green beans, and possibly some radishes and green cabbage. Cucumbers are done for the year, but we may have a bit of zucchini. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

Shooting Star Farm
The story this time of year is lots and lots of variety. The tomatoes from our hoophouse are finally rolling in, so we’ll have lots of red slicers. We should have a good supply of paste tomatoes and a selection of heirlooms, too. Peppers and eggplants are plentiful as well. We should have a good supply of salad mix and some head lettuce (finally). Other items include beets, kales, broccoli, Swiss chard (a new crop), fennel, sweet onions, Italian bottle onions, green beans, a bit of spinach, salad turnips (yes, they’re back), and possibly some radishes. Basil will be in short supply until it re-grows. See you Saturday. Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
