September 27th - Week 21

Hello MP Market Goers!

The season is slipping by quickly and there are just 4 outdoor markets left!  Wow, where did the season go?  I sure hope that you have been able to get at least some of the season's wonderful bounty put up in your cellar or freezer for enjoyment throughout the wa wa wa ...winter (my body still does not want to acknowledge that it is coming).  I have yet to get my salsa made and am very worried that I have missed the season.
Now is the time though to start thinking about stocking away some squash and apples, both of which keep well in the refrigerator for long term storage.  So if you have an extra fridge in the garage, why not fill it up with something healthy.  Apples are my go to snack for when the kids get home from school.  So start thinking ahead, what do you want to be eating this winter?

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Apples, Pears, Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes and slicing tomatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cantelope, Watermelon, Swiss Chard, Sweet Corn, Green Beans, Onions, Raspberries, Pumpkins, Squash, Edamame, Indian Corn, Mixed Greens, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Egg plant, Peppers, Parsley, Basil, Dill, Leeks, Collard Greens, Artisan Breads and Baked Goods, Kale, Beets, Salad Dressing, Scallions, Garlic, Onions, Carrots, Celery, Celery Root, Radishes, Bok Choy, Watercolor art, Pies, Fresh Cut flowers, Wildlife Prints and Greeting Cards, Goat Milk Soaps and Lotion Bars, Yard art, Vintage Magnets, Head Lettuce, Herbs, Green & Red Cabbage, Fennel, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Scarves, Potholders, Doll Clothes, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Matchbook Magnet
Hello market-goers!  I’m excited to be back at the market this week with my handcrafted magnets.  They are made using images from vintage matchbooks my Dad collected during the golden age of matchbook advertising – the 1940s thru early 1960s.  They will brighten your kitchen, office, or workshop and are a unique and personal gift for any special occasion.  I have magnets that cover a wide variety of interests and appeal to all ages.  It’s not too early to start your holiday shopping, so stop by and pick up some stocking stuffers.  They also fit nicely in a Christmas card for an unexpected surprise.  matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com  See you Saturday!  Cindy
Mummu's Makeovers aka Susan Marr
It seems we have another picture perfect Market day coming up this Sat.!  I do plan to be there and hopefully meet some of our Cornish guests to M.Pt.  I've just been working on a variety of items so nothing in particular to announce.  However, I do have some Pointer blue/white things left.  And, again, I will be taking orders for 3- piece Packer sets that include poncho, hat and scarf done in Packer fleece.  I still have had no luck finding Bucky Badger fleece in a small print but am still looking.  (We do want our dolls to be fans of all of our Wisconsin sports!!)  Also, pass the word to friends from other schools that I will try to fill orders for these 3-piece sets in their school colors, too.  They will be super Christmas gifts!!  Enjoy this beautiful fall weather and I look forward to seeing you on Sat. Sept. 27.  Feel free to call me if you need a gift for that special little girl and won't be able to come to Market to see what I have.   Mummu
Queen Bee Acres
Queen Bee Acres will be at the Market this week with our delicious honey, pure and natural from southwest Wisconsin.  This week we are introducing Creamed Honey in limited quantities.  Stop by the booth and try some.   We also have sweet smelling golden beeswax for sale in small, medium & large size bars.  Beeswax has many uses such as candle making, waterproofing, making cosmetics, conditioning thread, lubrication or for polishing.  Come enjoy the Market.  Feel free to ask questions about beekeeping, we are happy to share what we have learned and continue to learn about the beekeeping.  Pete & Fran Demo, Keepers of the bees; www.queenbeeacres.com
Shooting Star Farm
Looks like it’ll be another beautiful day on Saturday. We’ve had little lettuce and spinach this fall, which is very unusual for us. The pounding rain and lingering humidity followed by cool temps really took its toll on some of the greens. However, we should have some baby lettuces again this week along with salad mix. Even though tomatoes have slowed way down with night temperatures in the 30’s and low 40’s, we will have plenty of cherry tomatoes, romas, paste tomatoes, and a few heirlooms. The red slicing tomatoes are about done for the year. For this week we should have arugula, broccoli, Swiss chard, celery, celery root (finally), kale, collard greens, green and red cabbage, romanesco broccoli, orange cauliflower (yes, it’s supposed to be orange!), carrots, onions, garlic, shallots, leeks, radishes, beets, bok choy, parsley, green and red sweet peppers, dill, watermelons, a few cucumbers, and possibly some cantelope (very, very late this year!). Will there be room on the tables?! Hope to see you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.
Sweet Earth Gardens and Vintage China
I will be at the market this weekend, with dahlias, sunflowers, cosmos, Zinnias, alstermeria, and hydrangeas.  I think I will be starting a build your own bouquet option as well as the arrangements this week.  See you all soon.  Barbara
Tippy Top Orchard
I will be back at the market this week with more of my delicious pears including Asian pears and apples!  Hope to see you all there!
Winndie Darrow
Will be vending this week - she makes scarves, pot holders, etc.

September 20th - Week 20

Hello MP Market Goers!

Congratulations to Sarah Burkhardt-Sable, winner of last week's market basket drawing!  Enjoy your basket of goodies!
This week has been a week of change at the Patch.  We have been busy converting our shed into a beautiful pumpkin barn.  Fall is officially here!  The soybeans and corn that grace our Wisconsin landscape are beginning to dry down and be harvested.  The final fruits and vegetables of the season, like watermelon and cantelope, pumpkins and squash, apples and peppers are all being harvested now.  Our oak leaves are not changing colors yet but I have seen some tints of red on a few maple trees. I love fall and all its colors and flavors!

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Apples, Pears, Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes and slicing tomatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cantelope, Watermelon, Swiss Chard, Sweet Corn, Green Beans, Onions, Mixed Greens, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Egg plant, Peppers, Parsley, Basil, Dill, Leeks, Collard Greens, Artisan Breads and Baked Goods, Kale, Beets, Salad Dressing, Scallions, Garlic, Onions, Carrots, Celery, Celery Root, Radishes, Bok Choy, Watercolor art, Pies, Fresh Cut flowers, Yard art, Head Lettuce, Herbs, Green & Red Cabbage, Fennel, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Scarves, Potholders, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

I sure hate to miss any Market days since we are so close to the end of the season, but, unfortunately, I won't be able to make it this Sat. Sept. 20.  I've talked with some of you: Pointer blue/white and I do have some items made.  If you are interested, please call me at 623-2592 and we can make arrangements for you to see them.  I know Homecoming is just around the corner so I'll do what I can to help you get things b/4 then.  I hope to see you all next Sat. Sept. 13th - Week 19

Hello MP Market Goers!

Can you say BRRRR?  Wow, temps sure did drop yesterday.  Who's ready to hunker down, turn on the oven/stove and get cooking?

Yesterday I made a delicious raspberry pie, Farmer Ed says "best ever".  If you'd like to try your hand at one, here is the recipe that was so loved http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/favorite-fresh-raspberry-pie.
We are also in peak tomato season at market, now that it is a bit chillier out, maybe you could heat up the kitchen making sauce, or juice, or salsa (this is my plan for next week).

Despite the cooler weather there are still lots of things to do in and around town.  Saturday night at Alley Stage is Beth Kille, a great singer/song writer, and her band. They’ll be recording an album during the performance. Starts at 7:30. Tickets are just $10.00. http://www.shakeragalley.com/shows/beth-kille
The Southwest Wisconsin Book Festival runs all day Saturday with workshops throughout the day. Michael Perry will be at the Opera House will give a talk as part of the Book Festival. His performance starts at 7:00. Tickets are $15.00-$20.00 . http://swwibookfestival.com/

But be sure to come up to the Mineral Point Market first, this week it is once again Market Basket Drawing time!  Sign up for your chance to win a basket full of goodies from your favorite market vendors!

Lacey's Lathers Goat Milk Soaps and Lotions
We will be back at market on Saturday! Stop by and say hi!
We have been getting a lot on inquiries as to when is to early to stock up on soaps and lotions for the winter months and Christmas gifts and how to keep the products. Here's some suggestions-
Soaps- Keep fragrances separate the soaps themselves will keep years (if stored between 40-80degrees) but the fragrances will fade or mix after about 6 months. Also if you know what scents you would like you can pre-order them before the market and I will have Lacey's Lathers labels put on them.
Lotions-The lotions can't take the heat as well as soaps so try not to let them get over 70 degrees or they will melt! They will keep and hold their fragrances up to 8 months.
So you may begin Christmas shopping now and hold off on stocking up for soaps to last till next years market till October if possible! Clare www.laceyslathers@yahoo.com

I really did have every intention of being at Market last Sat., but I was able to get my granddaughter early on Sat. a.m. and in my world, grandkids trump pretty much everything!  I was in withdrawal from not seeing her the wk-end before so I had to get her.  I'll try again this Sat. to be there.  It sounds at this point like a very fall-like day coming up.....nice and crisp.  That's the way I like it!  Anyway, my plan is to be at Market this Sat. Sept. 13 with many new items.  I'll be taking orders for my fall/winter sets that have a fleece poncho, scarf and hat in Packer prints.  I'm looking for Pointer blue fleece as well so I can do local sets.  And I'm finding Bucky Badger prints are too big to use so I'm not sure if Bucky will be an option this year.   Guess I'll just have to keep shopping.......darn!!!  Have a great week and I hope to see you this Sat.      Mummu     (this is Finnish for "Grandma")    p.s.  I DID walk across the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day.  It was fine till the next day when I could hardly walk!   I am glad I did it, tho!!

Shooting Star Farm
Last Saturday was absolutely gorgeous. It was great to see so many people come to the Market to enjoy the morning. This Saturday will feel a lot more like fall, but the sun will be shining and our vegetable supply is at its peak! Items on our table this week will include arugula, bok choy, napa cabbage, red and green cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, watermelons, cucumbers, green, red, and orange sweet peppers, kale, Swiss chard, collards, carrots, onions, garlic, radishes, dill, cilantro, parsley (basil is done for the season), red and roma tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes (7 different kinds!), celery, leeks, and a mixture of spicy greens that go into our salad mix. Our lettuce crop was hit hard with disease and rotting due to all the wet and humid weather. The spicy greens have done much better, so we’ll make up bags of those in lieu of salad mix and lettuce. That should do it. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

We were hoping for a bit of rain to water in some fall crops and boy did we get it! Nearly two more inches. Yikes! It may impact our lettuce offerings for the next few weeks, but we hope to have salad mix and arugula in good supply. Tomatoes are still plentiful. They've peaked and will start slowing down by next week. You won't notice much difference at Market for at least a few weeks. Here's the remaining lineup for Saturday: watermelons! Boy these have taken a long time to ripen this year. We have a refrigerator-size, dark pink variety called Sweet Favorite. Not seedless, but very tasty. Other items include eggplant sweet peppers, cucumbers, carrots, celery, beets, bok choy, radishes, onions, leeks, Swiss chard, kale, collards, a bit of zucchini, cilantro, parsley, and dill. Basil is done for the season. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
