Hello MP Market Goers!

I can't believe our market season is coming to an end; there are just three markets left in Mineral Point! Three markets left to stock up your freezer and eat fresh from the fields. But despite market coming to a close soon, many vendors have their products available throughout the winter so be sure to check with them if there is something you might need a bit later.
This week though there continues to be much bounty! With frost still not in the picture things continue to grow and harvest has been good though a little on the wet side.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Flour, Honey, Maple Syrup, Asparagus Soup, Potatoes, Pumpkins, Squash, Raspberries, Leeks, Onions, Carrots, Sage, Thyme, Oregano, Basil, Dill, Napa Cabbage, Beets, Broccoli, Kale, Spinach, Winter Radishes, Arugula, Salad Mix, lettuce, radishes, radicchio, endive, mustard greens, eggplant, a few cucumbers, Peppers, Tomatoes, Watercolor gifts, Goat Milk Soap, Frozen Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Frozen Sweet Corn, Dilly Beans, Coffee, Salsa, Jam, BBQ Sauce, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

Due to a combination of events:  a recent promising job, a growing family and some extended family illness I have decided I will be taking a break from the soap and lotion business for the near future.
I would like to thank all my customers for their past and present purchases and support!!!  I could not have asked for a better town then Mineral Point, and community then southwest Wisconsin to grow and run a business! The people I have met and experiences I have been through have been amazing to say the least!!!
For those of you wondering if you can still stock up on your favorite products, you can! We still have a great selection of soaps available and we will be using up our remaining solid lotion bar ingredients in the coming weeks. Orders will be filled on a first come first serve basis. We will finish our year at the Mineral Point Market, Fennimore, Argyle, and Lancaster Craft Fairs. September 24th - Week 21

Hello MP Market Goers!

The colors of fall are upon us! I've noticed a few trees beginning to change colors and boy do I love driving through Mineral Point and seeing the beautiful maples. I can't wait until they are all bright yellow and orange. Colors are changing at the Patch too and we are busy pulling pumpkins, gourds, squash, and Indian corn from the fields.
I love this time of year. The temperature outside is usually perfect to work in the fields. The kids love hunting through the fields for the most outrageous pumpkin. And cooking in the kitchen no longer requires cranking up the air conditioning! Whew! Plus I love soup and you can do so much with the vegetables coming out of the fields. From cabbage to leek to potato to tomato there are endless opportunities for a fabulous soup. Add beef, pork, or chicken to any of them and you've got a hearty meal!

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Flour, Honey, Maple Syrup, Asparagus Soup, Potatoes, Pumpkins, Squash, Raspberries, Radishes, Beets, Leeks, Celery Root, Carrots, Peppers, Eggplant, Kale, Mustard Greens, Spinach, Arugula, Salad Mix, Lettuces, Oregano, Sage, Thyme, Tarragon, Basil, Cucumbers, Onions, Tomatoes, Endive, Radicchio, Cabbage, Green Onions, and Broccoli, Wildlife Prints, Goat Milk Soap, Frozen Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Frozen Sweet Corn, Dilly Beans, Coffee, Salsa, Jam, BBQ Sauce, Fresh Cut Flowers, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

According to the news reports, 2016 is the fourth wettest summer on record for the state of Wisconsin. Our farm has been spared some of the heaviest rains that have plagued Richland Center, Viroqua, and northern Wisconsin, but it sure has been wet! We’re due for a few more inches this week alone. Looks like things will dry out for Saturday, so another nice Market day in store. Yay! Here’s our predicted harvest for the weekend: Radishes, beets, leeks, celery root, bunched carrots, red and green sweet peppers, hot peppers, eggplant, kale, mustard greens, spinach, arugula, salad mix, baby and larger-sized lettuces, oregano, sage, thyme, tarragon, basil, cucumbers, red and white onions, cherry tomatoes, red slicing tomatoes, roma tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, endive, radicchio, napa cabbage, green onions, and broccoli. That should do it. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.

Where has the season gone? We are halfway through September already and there are just a handful of markets left for the season! Be sure to start thinking ahead. If you haven't already done so, defrost the freezer so that you are able to stock up with all the wonderful flavors of summer. At market there are many things worth packing into the freezer. Locally grown beef, pork, and chicken for one. Then there are all the wonderful fruits and vegetables, some of which are already processed and ready to go into your cellar or freezer such as salsa, soup, and sweet corn. And if you don't know how to process something just ask one of the vendors at market. We've got some great ideas and plenty of experience as many of us preserve our products for our own families.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Flour, Honey, Maple Syrup, Asparagus Soup, Potatoes, Squash, Raspberries, Leeks, Scallions, Onions, Kale, Spinach, Radishes, Cabbage, Salad Turnips, Salad Mix, Baby Arugula, Lettuces, Fennel, Kohlrabi, Endive, Beets, Celery Root, Peppers, Eggplant, Basil, Cucumbers, Herbs, Tomatillos, Tomatoes, Doll Clothing, Watercolor Paintings and Artwork, Goat Milk Soap, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Frozen Sweet Corn, Dilly Beans, Coffee, Salsa, Jam, BBQ Sauce, Fresh Cut Flowers, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

Seems like we’ve had a lot of rainy Saturday mornings this season. Last week started out that way, but once the rain let up, you all came out to shop. Thank you! This week’s weather looks to be good (cross your fingers), and we have lots of yummy produce to fill your bags and baskets.  Cool weather items include beautiful leeks (great in soup with Bures potatoes), scallions, red and yellow onions, kale, spinach, radishes, napa cabbage, salad turnips, salad mix, baby arugula, lettuces, fennel, kohlrabi, endive, beets, and celery root. We also have a decent supply of summer crops: red, orange, and green sweet peppers, hot peppers, eggplant, basil, snacking cucumbers, mixed herbs, tomatillos, cherry, roma, and heirloom tomatoes;  beautiful orange and red salad/snacking tomatoes, and a few red slicers. Our red slicing tomatoes took a hit with all the rain and humidity, so we don’t have many left. The romas are doing somewhat better. Broccoli may be ready – next week for sure. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

September 10th - Week 19

Hello MP Market Goers!

Wow, what a week it has been. First I've felt behind all week since we had Labor Day on Monday then we got 3" of rain yesterday. Whew! It's time to catch up here at the Patch. Lately we spend 4 days a week picking our delicious raspberries and the other three beginning our fall harvest and keeping the rest of the farm maintained.
Yes I can't believe it's here already, fall that is. Fortunately, usually that means cooler weather as well. Our poor air conditioner has certainly gotten a workout this summer; it's been such a hot one.
This week at market will bring some new fall produce. In addition, it's also our monthly drawing for a market basket winner. Be sure to sign up for your chance to win a beautiful selection of market items for your home and belly.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Flour, Honey, Maple Syrup, Asparagus Soup, Potatoes, Squash, Raspberries, Tomatoes, Salad Mix, Arugula, Lettuce Heads, Beets, Radishes, Peppers, Eggplant, Onions, Shallots, Leeks, Scallions, Celery Root,  Swiss Chard, Cabbage, Cucumbers, Basil, Herbs, Wildlife Prints, Watercolor Paintings and Artwork, Goat Milk Soap, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Frozen Sweet Corn, Dilly Beans, Coffee, Salsa, Jam, BBQ Sauce, Fresh Cut Flowers, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

I am planning on being at the market this weekend, weather permitting.  Once again I will have a selection of my nature and wildlife photography available as matted prints ready for framing as well as greeting cards and a book featuring over 80 of my favorite photos.  All of my cards are blank inside so they can be used for any occasion.  When I'm not at the market my cards are always available at the Mineral Point Collection located at 151 High Street.  Finally, the High Street Gallery is open!  The biggest selection of my work ever displayed at one location can be seen at 33 High Street.  This includes framed, metal canvas prints as well as a huge selection of matted prints and cards.  The hours for the gallery are Friday - Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday 11-4.  I will be working at the gallery this Sunday so stop in and check out my work as a well as the work of several other artists.  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com and you can like and follow my work on Facebook.  My photos don't handle moister very well so I won't be at the market if there is rain in the forecast.  Thanks, Mike

Hi All! Just time for a very short note to let you all know I will not be at Market this Sat. Sept. 10.  I will be in Dodgeville at the Hidden Valley Community Church for a craft show there.  It is in conjunction with the Children's Miracle Network fund-raiser and is from 9 am to 1 pm.  So if you're in the area (after going to M. Pt. Market first, of course) do stop in and say "Hi"!   I plan to be at Market next week but will get an "official" report out next Wed.  Have a great week!     Mummu
Pointer Pantry
Pointer Pantry will be selling coffee (regular and decaf) on Sat. $2/Cup or any donation amount. We also have mugs donated by local potters for sale at $25 each (all proceeds to Pointer Pantry). Pointer Pantry is a 501c3 (donations are tax deductible), which provides gift certificates to Mineral Point students at risk for being hungry when school is not in session. These gift certificates are good for two weeks and can redeemed at Point Foods for anything except alcohol or tobacco products. Pointer Pantry only pays Point Foods for redeemed gift certificates. Anyone who has questions can reach out to Mo May Grimm at 608-574-3555.
Queen Bee Acres
Queen Bee Acres has sold out of honey for the season. The bees are busy making more!  Honey is harvested once per season and we will be harvesting the first part of September.  Look for us to be back at the Mineral Point Market by the second weekend of September with fresh honey and beeswax.  We will also have creamed honey!  The Pear in Mineral Point and Cobblestone Coffee in Dodgeville have limited sizes and quantities available.  We are sorry for any inconvenience but we are at the mercy of our little worker bees.
Enjoy the Market, we will see you the second weekend of September.  Thank you for your understanding.  Pete & Fran Demo, Keepers of the Bees.  608-776-2188 or via email at queenbee@queenbeeacres.com
Shooting Star Farm
Labor Day weekend is usually about the time we are swimming in tomatoes. Our biggest harvest came a little early for most everything this year, but roma tomatoes are still very plentiful. Red slicing and cherry tomatoes are also in reasonably good supply. The heirlooms are more limited at the moment, likely due to heat stress back in August. We’re hoping they pick up again soon. This Saturday we’ll also have salad mix, arugula, lettuce heads, beets, radishes, red and green peppers, eggplant; red, white, and yellow onions, shallots, leeks, scallions, celery root,  Swiss chard, green cabbage, napa cabbage, cucumbers (a smaller, mild variety), basil, and miscellaneous herbs, and possibly some spinach. Zucchini and green beans are done for the season. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.

Here is a list of the unconfirmed vendors that may or may not be at market this week:
Farmers' Daughter Kitchen
Platteville Sunflower Oil Company
Rustics at Ridge
Scrappin with Joni
Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China

If you are interested in being a vendor, contact Jenny Bonde at starfarm@mhtc.net.

Marr's Valley View Farms
WE HAVE NEW ITEMS FOR YOU THIS WEEK....and they aren't meat believe it or not!
We will be offering whole grain flours and rolled oats produced by friends of ours.  They grow the whole grains, dry and mill the products right on their farm near Chilton.  Their sustainable growing practices using organic fertilizers guarantee you will get a great product free from harsh chemicals. The grains are 'whole grain' which means nothing has been taken out, nothing has been added and they are not pre-soaked.
We will have a very limited supply of the following products so get there early so you won't miss out:

- Rolled Oats
- Durum Flour - great for making pasta
- Oat Flour - great for GLUTEN-FREE baking
- Spelt Flour - great for making breads

All are offered in one pound bags.

Back to the meat!  Mike's back from vacation but we've decided to run our special offer on Bone-In Loin Pork Chops again this week.  It was so well received by you a few weeks ago so why not do it again.  This Saturday you can purchase our ever popular bone-in loin chops for $4.99 a pound. That's a $1.00 per pound savings.  No minimum/maximum purchase. Show up early so you won't miss out.  If you would like a large quantity please pre-order.
If you need a large quantity - send an e-mail to federman@charter.net or call 608-574-2899 by 5:00 p.m. Friday and we will have your order ready for pickup at the Market. See you Saturday! All of us at Marr's Valley View Farms, Mineral Point, WI.

Shooting Star Farm
Roma tomatoes, anyone?? We have loads coming along on our plants. Romas are great for salsa, sauce, and salads. Since they’re not as juicy as slicing tomatoes, they are much easier to can or process. Plus they sweeten up nicely when cooked into sauce. For Saturday we will also have our usual selection of heirloom, red slicing, and cherry tomatoes. Good supplies of everything.  The hot, humid, wet summer has taken a toll on cool-weather loving crops, and has resulted in some extensive leaf diseases – particularly in the cabbage family crops. But luckily many things are producing despite the ugly outer leaves. We will have some new napa cabbage and bok choy this week, along with some not-quite-pretty-as-usual Romanesco broccoli (more due to heat than disease). Other items this Saturday include eggplant, zucchini, sweet and hot peppers, tomatillos, white and red onions, larger leeks, watermelon, cantaloupe, Swiss chard, kale, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, cilantro, parsley, scallions, basil, sage, thyme , tarragon, mixed lettuce heads, spinach, and possibly some salad mix, radishes, and arugula.  See you Saturday!  Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
