I am planning on being at the market this weekend, weather permitting.  Once again I will have a selection of my nature and wildlife photography available as matted prints ready for framing as well as greeting cards and a book featuring over 80 of my favorite photos.  All of my cards are blank inside so they can be used for any occasion.  When I'm not at the market my cards are always available at the Mineral Point Collection located at 151 High Street.  Finally, the High Street Gallery is open!  The biggest selection of my work ever displayed at one location can be seen at 33 High Street.  This includes framed, metal canvas prints as well as a huge selection of matted prints and cards.  The hours for the gallery are Friday - Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday 11-4.  I will be working at the gallery this Sunday so stop in and check out my work as a well as the work of several other artists.  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com and you can like and follow my work on Facebook.  My photos don't handle moister very well so I won't be at the market if there is rain in the forecast.  Thanks, Mike
Marr's Valley View Farms
WE HAVE NEW ITEMS FOR YOU THIS WEEK....and they aren't meat believe it or not!
We will be offering whole grain flours and rolled oats produced by friends of ours.  They grow the whole grains, dry and mill the products right on their farm near Chilton.  Their sustainable growing practices using organic fertilizers guarantee you will get a great product free from harsh chemicals. The grains are 'whole grain' which means nothing has been taken out, nothing has been added and they are not pre-soaked.
We will have a very limited supply of the following products so get there early so you won't miss out:

- Rolled Oats
- Durum Flour - great for making pasta
- Oat Flour - great for GLUTEN-FREE baking
- Spelt Flour - great for making breads

All are offered in one pound bags.

Back to the meat!  Mike's back from vacation but we've decided to run our special offer on Bone-In Loin Pork Chops again this week.  It was so well received by you a few weeks ago so why not do it again.  This Saturday you can purchase our ever popular bone-in loin chops for $4.99 a pound. That's a $1.00 per pound savings.  No minimum/maximum purchase. Show up early so you won't miss out.  If you would like a large quantity please pre-order.
If you need a large quantity - send an e-mail to federman@charter.net or call 608-574-2899 by 5:00 p.m. Friday and we will have your order ready for pickup at the Market. See you Saturday! All of us at Marr's Valley View Farms, Mineral Point, WI.

Shooting Star Farm
Some cooler, less humid weather was really a treat this week. Picking tomatoes inside a hoophouse, even with ends and sides open, has been like taking a sauna this summer. We’ve been fortunate that tomatoes are doing great both outside as well as outdoor. All of our cherry tomatoes are in the hoophouse, which helps lessen cracking due to all the rain we’ve had. They also grow like mad. We got too busy to keep them all well pruned, so a few rows are like a jungle of tangled eight-foot vines. We will have lots of tomatoes on Saturday – heirlooms, cherry types, red slicing tomatoes, and roma tomatoes. We’ll have several packed into 20 pound boxes for those who want to freeze or can. Also look for eggplant, white and red onions, leeks, watermelon, cantaloupe, Swiss chard, kale, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, tomatillos, hot peppers, colorful and green sweet peppers, cilantro, parsley, scallions, basil, sage, thyme , tarragon, little gem romaine lettuce, and maybe a bit more. No salad mix this week. It got destroyed by hot, humid weather over the past few weeks. It’s been a humid summer, I’d say!! See you Saturday!  Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Sweet Earth Garden and Vintage China
Hello friends, Sweet Earth Gardens will be at the market this week.  We will have dahlias, sunflowers, coneflowers, zinnias, gladiolas, and hydrangeas and cosmos.

Lacey's Lathers

Marr's Valley View Farms
Ahhhhh - August - that means the "dog days of summer" are upon us. The weather certainly can confirm that lately. It also means tomatos are ready which means BLTs which means we have the "B" in BLT - BACON.  Five varieties as a matter of fact, to go with Rink and Jenny's tomatos and lettuce.  One of the favorite treats of summer.  If it's a bit to hot to cook in the house - we are fully stocked with ground beef patties, hot dogs and bratwurst for your grill.  If you are like us, you are a lover of weekend family breakfasts that include bacon, pork sausage links and ham.  Our Stew Meat makes the perfect shish-ka-bob meat. Or how about some Beef Short Ribs and Pork Spare Ribs "falling-off-the-bone" slow cooked and finished on the grill with your favorite BBQ sauce. If you are in need of a large quantity please place your order in advance and we will have it all ready for you to pick up at the Market. When you dine on Marr's Valley View Farms meats, rest assured you are eating naturally lean meats - fresh beef and pork products direct from a local farm to you.  If you need a large quantity - send an e-mail to federman@charter.net or call 608-574-2899 by 5:00 p.m. Friday and we will have your order ready for pickup at the Market. Looks to be a wonderful temperature this weekend. If we do get some raindrops, bring your umbrella. We’ll be there rain or shine! This Saturday we’ll starting bringing along some larger quantities of roma and red tomatoes for freezing and canning. Supplies will still be somewhat limited. They still haven’t peaked, so no need to rush. There’ll be plenty more the following weekends. Also look for some yummy red “icebox” sized watermelons. The main variety we have has seeds, but is delicious. We may also have some seedless melons. Again, a small variety weighing about 5 pounds. Other items to look for this week: red, orange, and green sweet peppers, hot peppers, tomatillos, red onions, white onions, leeks, Swiss chard, beets, salad greens, head lettuce, radishes (spicy with the heat), cucumbers, zucchini and summer squash, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, cilantro, basil, thyme, sage, oregano, and probably some items that I’m forgetting. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

To my market customers I will be back at market on august 13th. Many of you are probably wondering what's going on or why I'm not at market. I still have a significant amount of inventory so if you need any products when I'm coming to market and would like to place an order or make sure I have it feel free to call 608-574-98 or email laceyslathers@yahoo.com. Clare

HI All!  I do know I won't be at Market this Sat. Aug. 13.  Cobb's annual festivities are this week-end and one of the new events is a craft/vendor show. So I will be participating in that on Sat.  The hours are from 9-3 so if you have time, why not come over after your Market shopping and see what is available. We will be next to the Community Center...can't miss it.....it IS Cobb, ya know! I don't know how many vendors/crafters will be there, but I'm hoping there will be many.  The more....the merrier!  Also, our parade is on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00 and should be a good one.  Coach Gard will be the parade Marshall and Bucky Badger will also be on hand!  So we do anticipate a good crowd for that!  If I don't see you at Cobb, I plan to be at Market next week, Aug. 20.  So do stop by and say "Hi" then!  Keep Cool.......Mummu

Last week we tried a new set-up at our stand and it caused a bit of a bottle-neck at the beginning and end. We apologize to all of you who just needed a few items and had to wait in line behind everyone. We’ll do something different this week to improve the flow. Also thanks for your patience with our lack of salad greens this summer. Between storm damage on the lettuce, and slimy greens due to heat and humidity, we’ve really had a shortage. We are due for more rain Thursday night, so we’ll get the greens early this week – just in case. On to the produce: Lots of cherry and saladette tomatoes this week! We’ll bring along some recipes and have special pricing if you buy more than a pint. The red tomatoes are beginning to come along, too. We’ll definitely have more than last week. And yummy, colorful heirlooms are looking great. Nothing like a plate of colorful tomatoes with fresh mozzarella or feta cheese to brighten up a summer meal. Other items on the table this week include beets, carrots, white sweet onions, Italian bottle onions (a.k.a. torpedo onions), baby leeks, shallots, tomatillos, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant,  napa cabbage, zucchini, cucumbers, swiss chard,  basil, oregano, tarragon, thyme, sage, and dill, possibly a few musk melons, and green beans. See you Saturday! See you then! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

August 6th - Week 14

Hello MP Market Goers!

Wow! It sure has been hot lately! As a farmer, it's hard to escape the heat this time of year. As a plant, it's even harder. For this reason our irrigation pump has been running every morning and occasionally in the evening if we haven't caught up or it was too windy in the morning. Do you know it's best to water in the morning? Doing so prevents disease.
With the heat comes all crops summer! And tomatoes are in full production; this week at market Shooting Star Farm will have countless varieties on their table. Furthermore, Bures Berry Patch will have sweet corn! Who's hungry? As an added bonus to the weekend...looks like our temperatures are going to drop into the 70's, whew.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Honey, Maple Syrup, Asparagus Soup, Green Beans, Potatoes, Sweet Corn, Beets, Carrots, White Sweet Onions, Italian Bottle Onions, Leeks, Tomatillos, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Eggplant, Cabbages, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Amaranth Greens, Lettuce, Salad Mix, Dill, Basil, Watercolor paintings and artwork, Nature Prints, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Coffee, Salsa, Jam, BBQ Sauce, Fresh Cut Flowers, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.
Kathy Bures
Co-Manager
Mineral Point Market

Chestnut Hill Studio
Prints and cards from my original watercolor and colored  pencil drawings include old favorites and some new.  I am exploring sky and water this year and focusing on places rather than things. An expanding line up of ceramic tiles will include mosaic back-splashes and table tops.  I am hoping to offer custom pieces made to order.
I will have Jewelry only until the current inventory is sold out. Anyone interested in private watercolor painting lesson please stop by. I teach two people at a time at the rate of $10/hour each. My course is eight lessons long.
Carey's Greenhouse
The heat of the summer makes it difficult for newly established plants to take root and thrive. Therefore, I'll see you next spring with more wonderful perennials that will beautify your garden.  Thanks, Del
Evelyn's Gardens
Evelyn's Gardens and Gifts will be closed for the season. Thank you everyone. See you next season! Tom and Evelyn Weier
Farmers' Daughter Kitchen
Farmer's Daughter Bakery will be back next week with more of our savory scones, pie bars, muffins, and delicious treats. Hope to see you next Saturday! Til then, stay cool and dry. ~Becky and Helen

Lacey's Lathers
To my market customers. I am sorry to say that I will not be back at market until august 13th. Many of you are probably wondering what's going on or why I'm not at market. I have been recently working on completing a two-year Grant project for Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. I'm educating dairy goat producers, that teamed up with some extended family health issues has slowed down my attendance this year. I still have a significant amount of inventory so if you need any products when I'm coming to market and would like to place an order or make sure I have it feel free to call 608-574-98 or email laceyslathers@yahoo.com. Clare
Magic Light Photography
I will not be at the market this weekend, but not to worry, a very large selection of my work is now available at the High Street Gallery located at 33 High Street in Mineral Point.  We are scheduled to open for the first time this summer on Friday!  Just in time for Gallery Night on Saturday.  On display are several framed photos, metal prints as well as a couple of canvas gallery wraps.  A huge selection of matted prints, including some new images from my trip out west, the interior of the Mineral Point Opera house and the milky way.  My book and cards are also available at the gallery along with the work of several other artists.  The gallery hours are 10-5 Friday-Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday.  This Saturday we will be open until 9:00pm for Gallery Night.  If you need cards during the week, they are still going to be available at the Mineral Point Collection located at 151 High Street.  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com and you can like and follow my work on Facebook.   Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or photography requests.
Marr's Valley View Farms
We will not be at Market this week.  Everyone's taking a little vacation time.  See you on Saturday, August 13th.
All of us at Valley View Farms.
Matchbook Magnets
Hello market-goers!  Thanks to all who stopped by on Week 9.  It was good to see so many familiar faces and some new ones, too!  My next market vending will be August 6.  Stop by and check out my magnets made using images from vintage matchbook covers.  I’m hoping to include some new magnets, along with the old favorites.  matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com   See you August 6!  Cindy
Mummu's Makeovers aka Susan Marr
Hi All!  This really is summer in WI, isn't it??  I, for one, will be glad to see fall..( then winter) come!  Just those last bits of Upper MI in my blood.  I do  have Giada this week so won't be getting a huge amount of sewing done....but that's fine with me.  I haven't had my girl for awhile again and am totally enjoying our time together.
But I have decided to keep the sale going yet, at least for this week.  That is....all $10.00  items will be 3 for $25.00.... for a $5.00 saving.  Stock up now for holiday, birthday, back-to-school, and any other gift-giving occasions you may have coming up. If you won't be able to be at Market on Sat. Aug. 6 to shop, feel free to call me at 623-2592 and we can set up a time for you to come to Cobb and shop at my house.  And if you will be at Market on Sat, do stop by and say "Hi" and see what's new!   Keep Cool!  Hope to see you on Sat! Mummu
Pointer Pantry
Pointer Pantry will be selling coffee (regular and decaf) on Sat, 7/2 at Farmer's Market 8-11.
$2/Cup or any donation amount
We also have mugs donated by local potters for sale at $25 each (all proceeds to Pointer Pantry).
Pointer Pantry is a 501c3 (donations are tax deductible), which provides gift certificates to Mineral Point students at risk for being hungry when school is not in session. These gift certificates are good for two weeks and can redeemed at Point Foods for anything except alcohol or tobacco products. Pointer Pantry only pays Point Foods for redeemed gift certificates. Anyone who has questions can reach out to Mo May Grimm at 608-574-3555.
Queen Bee Acres
Queen Bee Acres has sold out of honey for the season. The bees are busy making more!  Honey is harvested once per season and we will be harvesting the first part of September.  Look for us to be back at the Mineral Point Market by the second weekend of September with fresh honey and beeswax.  We will also have creamed honey!  The Pear in Mineral Point and Cobblestone Coffee in Dodgeville have limited sizes and quantities available.  We are sorry for any inconvenience but we are at the mercy of our little worker bees.
Fran will be at the The Pear on August 6th for Gallery Night.  We are still in the planning stages but hope to have an observation hive available so folks can see the bees at work and a hive box to demonstrate a bit about beekeeping. Enjoy the Market, we will see you the second weekend of September.  Thank you for your understanding.  Pete & Fran Demo, Keepers of the Bees.  608-776-2188 or via email at queenbee@queenbeeacres.com
Rustics at Ridge

Shooting Star Farm
We’ve had lots of heat to ripen crops this weed, so tomatoes should be even more plentiful than last week. Particularly bountiful right now are cherry tomatoes. We have tangy sungolds, a delicious variety of red cherry tomatoes including a large grape type, and mixed striped and chocolate cherry tomatoes. Saladette tomatoes are smaller than a slicing tomato, but larger than a cherry. Perfect for – you guessed it – salad! We have orange and red varieties. Heirlooms include green zebra, black prince, garden peach (with fuzzy skin and sweet flavor), and larger Cherokee green, Valencia (orange), Rose de Berne (pink), and Copia (striped). We’ll also have red slicing tomatoes and roma tomatoes. What to eat with tomatoes? Salad! We will have salad mix again this week as well as some nice heads of mixed baby lettuces. Other items on the table will include bunched beets and carrots, white sweet onions, Italian bottle onions (a.k.a. torpedo onions), baby leeks, tomatillos, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, red, green, and napa cabbages, zucchini, cucumbers, amaranth greens (cook like spinach ‘cuz it’s too hot for spinach!), green beans, dill, basil, and assorted other herbs, and possibly some swiss chard. Saturday looks to be beautiful. See you then! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
