Shooting Star Farm
We are looking forward to doing another outdoor market at Water Tower Park this weekend. The low Friday night looks to be above 50 degrees with just a small chance of rain. Almost like September! We finally got a killing frost at our place last Friday night. Actually it was a killing freeze of around 27 degrees. The hoophouse tomatoes didn’t escape, as the cold seeped in through cracks and damaged most of the plants, bringing the end of tomato season for us. On the other hand, we still have lots of produce from the fields. The list this week: Carrots, beets (red and Chioggia), salad turnips, beauty heart winter radishes (http://ediblemadison.com/articles/view/i-beauty-heart-radishes ), broccoli shoots, red and green cabbage, kale (lacinato and red Russian varieties), Swiss chard, bok choy, napa cabbage, Tokyo Bekana (Japanese cabbage, bunched tatsoi and mizuna (both very mild Asian greens for salads or cooking), arugula, salad mix, baby romaine and mixed lettuce heads, larger  green leaf and butter lettuces, leeks (gorgeous fall variety), yellow onions, shallots, an assortment of green peppers, cilantro, an assortment of chicory and endive, and that should do it! Plenty of choices. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

But despite the weather, one needs to know that winter is coming and just like last week the weather in Wisconsin can change all too quickly. So...who's ready to make soup? Mary Jean says "don't forget homemade chicken soup season is here". Why not try this recipe?

I am planning on being back this week, weather permitting. This will be my last market of the season as I will be busy with the Fall Art Tour the following weekend. I will have a large selection of my nature and wildlife prints and cards along with a book featuring over 80 of my favorite photos.  All of my cards are blank inside so they can be used for any occasion.  NEW this week will be an 11x17 poster of my most popular photograph, Bucky's Twins.  I'm no longer making photographic prints of this image so this is the next best way to get an enlarged copy of this image at an affordable price and printed locally!  My photos don't handle moister very well so I won't be at the market if there is rain in the forecast.  When I'm not at the market my cards are always available at the Mineral Point Collection located on High Street.  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com.   Thanks, Mike

Hi All! I guess I missed sending my message last week and I do apologize for that. Sometimes I just lose track of time (and the day!)...they tell me that's part of retirement and I shouldn't worry about it. I will  you all the Sat., as I'm off to northern MN for our annual Cousins Gathering. My 2 sister and I along with 2 of our cousins get together once a year and it is just tooo much fun! We will be at my sister, Sandy's house this time. I will be picking up our Richmond, WA cousin at the airport in MSN Sat am and we will begin our road part of the adventure. The 2 MI gals will join us there. I'm not sure at this point if I will be back for the Oct. 17 market...I am hoping to make it, but as I said, this gathering is tooo much fun and I may have to stay until everyone else leaves. Enjoy this beautiful fall weather...have a great day at market and I will see you all soon!  Mummu

Magic Light Photography
I'm planning on being back this week, weather permitting.

Queen Bee Acres
We are looking forward to being back again this week with our new crop of honey. Pete and Fran Demo, Keepers of the Bees; www.queenbeeacres.com
Shooting Star Farm
We just tumbled from summer right into fall this week!  I keep thinking we have very little to offer, but our table had been chock-full. We still have some tomatoes coming out of the hoophouse (cherries, heirlooms, and saladettes), but quantities are slowing way down. This may be the last week for roma tomatoes from the field. Peppers, eggplants, and tomatillos are also continuing to produce, if slowly (no frost in sight). Other crops this week include carrots, beets, celery, celery root, kale, chard, collards, broccoli, kohlrabi, fennel, green and red cabbage, napa cabbage, bok choy, radishes, cilantro, parsley, sage, leeks, yellow, red and Italian bottle onions, shallots, salad mix, baby romaine lettuce, and possibly some salad turnips.  It’ll be cool this weekend,  but a sunny and beautiful. The pumpkins and gourds always look so enticing this time of year. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.
Sweet Earth Gardens
Sweet Earth gardens will be at the market this week with cosmos, dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias and more.  Hope to see you there. Barbara
