6/27/15 - Week 9

Hello MP Market Goers!

Well, Wisconsin weather got the best of market last Saturday. I thought for sure it wasn't going to rain until 11 or so, but things changed and we were getting wet a little before 9. This Saturday promises to be different, right? Right!
Mark your calendars, but there will be no Mineral Point Market next Saturday, July 4th due to the parade being in town. You might just have to take a drive into the country to get your fresh produce for the week. Be sure to come to the parade though as the Market will have a float in the parade!
This week at market promises to be delicious! Here are a few strawberry recipes from Bures Berry Patch!

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Beets, Kossak Kohlrabi, Sugar Snap Peas, Green Cabbage, Napa Cabbage, Bok Choy, Swiss Chard, Collard Greens, Kale, Broccoli, Garlic Scapes, Scallions, Lettuce, Salad Mix, Baby Arugula, Basil tops, Cilantro, Sorrel, Parsley, Strawberries, Maple Syrup, Frozen Cream of Asparagus Soup, Pectin, Baked Goods, Dilly Beans, Watercolor art, Wildlife Prints, Dehydrated veggies, Corn meal and flour, Baby Food, Perennial Plants, BBQ Sauce, Salsa, Jams, and Jellies, Doll Clothes, Fresh Cut Flowers, Alpaca Products, and so much more.   Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Hi All!  Well, Mother Nature tricked me last Sat. and did rain on the dolls and me and everyone else at Market!  I sure hope it doesn't happen this week as we are ready to go!  I'm not as busy as I could be as I have my little granddaughter, Giada, with me and we have so much to do!!  But I have been able to sneak a little time at the sewing machine so I plan to be at Market this Sat. June 27.  Do stop by and say "Hi" and check out the goodies for you 18" dolls (American Girl size).  I will also be at the Firehouse in Livingston on Sun. Everyone is asking about how the storm on Monday affected us. It sure looked like a hurricane out here with wind gusts of about 60 miles per hour, dark skies, and pounding rain. Fortunately, the storm was fairly quick, so damage was minimized.  Some big tree branches came down, but buildings and greenhouses are fine. In the fields the sugar snap pea trellises fell over, sweet corn, onions,  and tomatoes are bent sideways, and there was some lettuce damage. But overall not bad. The corn is already straightening out, and we should be able to get most of the peas back up. We’ll still have lots of goodies for Saturday. Here’s the list: Bunched beets, Kossak kohlrabi (those are the BIG ones), sugar snap peas, green cabbage, napa cabbage, bok choy, Swiss chard, collard greens, kale, broccoli, garlic scapes, scallions, lots of lettuce, salad mix, baby arugula, basil tops, cilantro, sorrel, parsley, possibly red radishes, and maybe even a few cucumbers (really – just a few early ones). Looks like sunshine for Saturday. See you then! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.

Mummu's Makeovers aka Susan Marr
Hi All!!  It has been a very busy week for Mummu at her sewing machine so I hope the weather does cooperate this Sat. June 20.  I guess it depends on which forecast we listen to for making plans.  If it is foggy, drizzly, windy or just plain "icky", the dolls want to stay at home with their clothes so that's what we do.  I think we should be ok this week.  If not, don't forget my phone number is 623-2592 and give me a call so we can do a "private show" for you at my house in Cobb. I still have a nice selection of outfits for the 4th of July, our dairy farmers appreciation and even a few things to celebrate strawberry season!!
And, of course, lots of summer dresses, shorts, capris, skirts, tops, PJ's and bathing suits.  Do stop by and say "Hi" and check it all out!  Looking forward to seeing you at Market!      Mummu

Shooting Star Farm
Glad things are finally drying out after a much needed rain. Everything grew like crazy this past week! Our offerings look much the same as last week, except we’ll be a bit shy on sugar snap peas. Our early planting is producing well, but we can’t seem to keep up between the Market and our CSA. We do have a much larger crop coming on for next week however, so hopefully we’ll be overwhelmed with peas by then. So here’s what to look for this week: bunched beets, Swiss chard, kale (3 kinds), napa cabbage (gorgeous), bok choy, spinach, scallions, garlic scapes, salad turnips, frisee endive, sugar snap peas (limited amount), salad mix, too many lettuces to mention, cilantro, dill, sorrel, parsley, basil tops, possibly radishes and maybe green cabbage. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Sweet Earth Gardens
Sweet Earth Gardens will be at the market this week.  Will have delphiniums, Asian lilies, spiderwort, lady's mantle and yarrow.  Hope to see you. Barbara

June 13th - Week 7

Hello MP Market Goers!

Boy did it ever heat up! I saw that the temperature reached 91 degrees in Mineral Point on Tuesday! Sure hope you were at the pool! But while you were at the pool, we farmers were watching our crops change seasons. No longer can we keep picking the asparagus, it needed to flower out (did you know that on an 80 degree day it can grow as much as 7")?
The spring season has officially passed and in came summer. Which means, while some of the produce you have grown to love over the last several weeks will no longer be available, you are sure to see some new items at market this week!
Also happening this week is the market basket drawing! Be sure to sign up for your chance to win a basket full of goodies from your favorite vendors at the Mineral Point Market.
Ready to try something new this week? Our bee keepers our back this week and here is a delicious recipe for Honey Nut Granola.

Matchbook Magnets
I'm excited to be back for my 4th year offering magnets made using vintage matchbook images.  It’s been quite a journey and full of surprises.  When I started vending, I thought women would be my primary customer.  As it turns out, men make up a big segment of my supporters.  Now it may have something to do with the subject matter! Magnets that are popular with men feature hunting, fishing, farming, bowling, billiards, and beer -- especially the ever popular "Beer is Good for You".  Father's Day is right around the corner, so stop by and see if there's a magnet fitting for your special dad.  I'm sure you will have just as much fun deciding as he will receiving a one-of-a-kind gift.  See you again soon!  matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com  Cindy

As I write this on Wednesday afternoon, it feels as though summer is definitely here. Hot! The plants are jumping this week (as are the weeds…), and we could sure use a good rain. But the fields look great! Beautiful strips of maturing cover crops like wheat, barley, and vetch, alongside neat rows of cabbage, lettuce, peas, and tomatoes. We’ll have some new items this week including sugar snap peas (the first of many), red beets, fries endive, and some basil tops. We have a beautiful new crop of napa cabbage, so if you’re one of those kimchi lovers, now’s the time to start fermenting. Large heads of lettuce are finally back, too. We’ll have a nice selection of bibb and leaf lettuces, as well as a lovely assortment of medium-sized heads including romaine. Salad mix, arugula, scallions, bok choy, cilantro, salad turnips, kale, Swiss chard, and sorrel will also be available. Our rhubarb patch is on the wane (needs rain!), and radishes are iffy. Lots to choose from, so we’ll see you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Sweet Earth Gardens
Sweet Earth Gardens will be at the market this week.  We will have lupines, peonies, iris, and the lilies are coming in.  See you Saturday. Barbara

Magic Light Photography
I am planning on being back at the market once again with a large selection of my nature and wildlife prints and cards, along with a book featuring almost 80 of my favorite photos.  My photos don't handle moister very well so I won't be at the market if there is rain in the forecast.  When I'm not at the market my cards are always available at the Mineral Point Collection located on High Street.  You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things at the market once again this year and hope to see you there as well! See you Saturday! Thanks, Mike

We will have a limited quantity at Market this weekend so shop early and give it a try!
The first holiday weekend of the season is behind us and hopefully now we, and the weather, can settle into a bit of a summer routine. The popular items of choice last week were again steaks, ground beef bulk and patties, bratwurst and bacon!  The tride and true staples of holiday weekends. This week, Marr's Valley View Farms will have our full line of tender, flavorful Black Angus Beef products and pork products at Market - our full selection is in stock for you to choose for grilling that quick after work evening meal. If you need a large quantity or just want to pre-order for pick-up at market, e-mail your order to federman@charter.net by 5:00 p.m. on Friday night or call 608-574-2899.  We are again offering pick-up of our Meat CSA at market this year - ask us on Saturday for details and how to join.  We encourage you to come early for best selection.  Thank you for your continued support of both our farm and the Mineral Point Market.  See you soon under the Water Tower!  All of us at Marr's Valley View Farm, Mineral Point, WI.
My next market will be June 6 and Father's Day is right around the corner, so stop by and see if there's a magnet fitting for your special dad.  I'm sure you will have just as much fun deciding as he will receiving a one-of-a-kind gift.  See you June 6!  matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com  Cindy
Mummu's Makeovers aka Susan Marr
I am really excited to be back at Market this year!  So far I have only been able to participate one time and it will be sporadic again this summer.  But I will keep you posted each week in the newsletter if I will be there or not. I have officially retired as of April 8 so am able to devote more time to sewing so I have been busy making lots of new clothes for your dolls and hope you all like seeing them. As of right now, I do plan to be there this Sat. June 6, weather permitting.  It looks like we are in for a great day so I hope it doesn't change. I hope to see you there!  Do stop and say "Hi!".  (Remember, I have clothes and accessories for 18" (American Girl size) dolls.  They are all one-of-a-kind, using recycled fabrics when possible!)      Come on out and enjoy all that our Market has to offer!    Mummu

Shooting Star Farm
It’s a super busy time of year getting in summer crops like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, winter squash, and cucumbers. That’s on top of the weekly planting of lettuce, salad greens, radishes, oh,  and harvesting! Sugar snap peas and beets will be ready in a week (wish we had some now), but we will have lots of other veggies. New this week will be a fresh crop of bok choy, a bit of Swiss chard (our first crop did not do well, so it’s awfully late), green garlic (probably only available one week), scallions, sorrel, and parsley. We may have more napa cabbage this week, too. In addition, look for  lots of lettuce, salad mix, arugula, dill, red and French breakfast radishes, salad turnips, spinach, and rhubarb. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Sweet Earth Gardens
Sweet earth Gardens will be at the market this week.  I will have more varieties of iris, verbena, lupines and peonies.  See you there. Barbara
