5/2/15 - Week 1
Hello MP Market Goers!
It's opening day at the Mineral Point Market! We are all so excited to be out in Water Tower Park once again and celebrating our 20th year of the Mineral Point Market. We hope you will join us Saturday mornings from 8:30-11 in Water Tower Park. We have some new vendors and many returning. To start the season off right, we will have all you need to restock your pantry! From pure, local honey and pure Wisconsin maple syrup to jams, jellies, and salsas the market will have it all! Plus things are beginning to grow both in Shooting Stars hoophouse and nearby woods so there will be plenty of fresh options as well. Won't you join us in welcoming spring back to Mineral Point?
Here's a great recipe for Almond Granola made with Bures Berry Patch pure maple syrup! It's a breakfast favorite with some raisins and cold milk.

Wow, we had a wonderful winter filled with family, friends, and good food; food that we preserved from last season to get us through the winter. Soon we will start that process over again. We will be harvesting delicious food from the Patch to eat both fresh and preserve for next winter. We can't wait! We have had a few bites of asparagus but it will be at least another week or so before we will have any available at market. In the meantime, we will be at market this week with our farm fresh eggs, pure maple syrup, frozen sweet corn, and our dilly beans. Please check our website for hours and availability. Like us on Facebook or signup for our e-newsletter to get the latest shovel on what’s happening in the Patch! Hope to see you in the Patch or at market soon! Kathy, Ed, Abby, and Ben

Wow, I can't believe
it's time for the market to start up again! Life has been very busy at the
Smith home this spring with the addition of another little boy to our
family. I'm sure Camden will be joining his big brother Holden at the
market this year! I am planning on being back at the market once again
with a large selection of my nature and wildlife prints and cards, along with a
book featuring almost 80 of my favorite photos. Don't forget that
Mother's Day is coming up and my photos and cards would make a great gift for
any nature loving mom out there. My photos don't handle moister very well
so I won't be at the market if there is rain in the forecast. When I'm
not at the market my cards are always available at the Mineral Point Collection
located on High Street. You can also view my work at www.magiclightphotography.com. I'm looking forward to getting back into the
swing of things at the market once again this year and hope to see you there as
well! See you Saturday! Thanks, Mike.
Marr's Valley View Farms
Welcome back to the Mineral Point Market! We are thrilled that our community Market is celebrating it's 20th year in 2015 and can't thank you enough for your support over the years. We've been vending for 17 of those 20 years. This winter we discovered electric pressure cookers. Mom used to can in the stove top pressure cooker that was a bit difficult to control at times. More than once we heard "stay out of the kitchen in case this thing blows". Sound familiar? Well - we did our Spare Ribs with Bob's Carolina BBQ Sauce in the "modern" pressure cooker this weekend - all we can say is OMG!
Marr's Valley View Farms' pledge to you this Market season is to continue to provide you and your family with a wide variety of high quality beef and pork products for your dining enjoyment. There will be introductions of new varieties of products. Open day, Applewood Smoked Bacon will be joining our Classic Hickory Smoked, Maple, Pepper and Uncured varieties. You can plan on a new Bratwurst variety or two showing up in time for grilling season, joining our Classic Beef, Classic Pork, Mushroom-Swiss, Chipotle Ranch and Kraut-Onion varieties.
This week Marr's Valley View Farms will have the full offering of our products - everything from our lean Ground Beef to Tenderloin Steaks to Pork Chops to all your favorite Beef Roasts. If you need a large quantity or just want to pre-order for pick-up at market, e-mail your order to federman@charter.net by 5:00 pm on Friday night. It is never to early to place your pre-order for that special graduation party or Memorial weekend cookouts. We are offering pick-up of our Farm Connection Meat CSA at market again this year - ask us on Saturday for details and how to join. Hopefully Saturday will be a beautiful day to welcome in the 2015 Market season. See you under the WaterTower - all of us at Marr's Valley View Farms.

I won’t be vending at
the market this week, but am excited to be back for my 4th year
offering magnets made using vintage matchbook images. It’s been quite a
journey and full of surprises. One is how many visitors to our market are
from out-of-state. I’ve met people from New Jersey, Texas, Colorado, and
Oregon - just to name a few. Many told me visiting our market was a
highlight of their trip. I’ll be back on May 23rd. See
you then! matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com Cindy
How fun to be
back for another season at the Mineral Point Market. And how exciting
to be part of the 20th anniversary celebration! Stop at the Queen
Bee Acres booth for local honey from Iowa and Lafayette counties, available in
glass and plastic bottles of various sizes. Yes, creamed honey will be
available while supplies last. We will also have sweet smelling
golden beeswax for sale in small, medium & large size bars. Beeswax
has many uses such as candle making, waterproofing, cosmetics, thread
conditioning, lubrication or for polishing. Come and enjoy the
Market. Feel free to stop and chat or ask questions about
beekeeping. We are happy to share our beekeeper adventurers and what we
have learned from raising bees. Pete &

Hurray! Another Market season is underway. It’s been a
strange spring with temperatures starting out cold (remember those 16 inches of
snow in March? Then it felt like May in April for a week or two, and back to
snow flurries last Wednesday. I’d say everything’s evened out and we’re back on
track. So, what will we have for the first Market? Radishes and arugula are
ready in the hoophouse. Normally we’d also have over-wintered spinach this
week, but the snowless January cold did it in. However, we’ve planted a small
crop in the hoophouse which should be ready to harvest on Friday. We will also
be selling ramps (wild leeks) that we harvest from our friend Nonda’s woods.
Ramps are delicious sautéed with other vegetables, potatoes, added to egg
dishes, or just chopped and added to butter for a yummy, oniony spread. Ramps
are only around for a few weeks, so get them while you can. Last but not least,
it looks like the rhubarb will be ready. Maybe not a lot this week, but there
should be some. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday! Rink,
