Hello MP Market Goers!
Things are heating up quite slowly this year, but it sure has been nice for working outside.  However, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of both tomatoes and sweet corn at market this season.  Shooting Star Farm will be bringing a few tomatoes this week but sweet corn really loves the heat so it will be one more week before we see corn at market.  Until then, there will be plenty to enjoy.  Bures Berry Patch has partnered with Healthy Ridge Farm of Door County to bring you a special treat, sweet dark cherries!  There are many other great options as well at market this week.  Stop by and check them all out!
Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Green Beans, Sweet Cherries, Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Broccoli, Swiss Chard, Onions, Mixed Greens, Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Maple Syrup, Kohlarbi, Parsley, Basil, Dill, Perennials, Artisan Breads and Baked Goods, Kale, Beets, Salad Dressing, Scallions, Watercolor art, Dilly Beans, Pies, Fresh Cut Flowers, Granola, Dehydrated Veggies, Corn meal and Corn Flour, Yard art, Head Lettuce, Herbs, Red Cabbage, Fennel, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Goat Milk Soap, Wildlife Prints and Cards, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

There is hope in sight.  Two tiny and one medium tomatoes are turning red on our plants but I'm afraid they won't make enough for even one BLT.  Definitely hoping MPM's produce growers will be bringing a variety of plump, juicy, red tomatoes to Market this week for all to enjoy with one of our Marr's Valley View Farms' 4 bacon varieties - Classic; Maple; Pepper Crusted; or Uncured.  The bacon is getting impatient - it's ready to go to work!
While we impatiently wait for BLT's, check out Cheese and Burger Society website for a unique twist on scrumptious burger varieties.  Be ready - it talks to you!  Bet you hadn't thought of dressing your burgers up like this!  I know we haven't.
Also choose from a wide variety of steaks, brats, hot dogs and burgers for your grill. Don't forget one of our informational brochures from the WI Beef and WI Pork Councils that are sure to build your confidence when cooking the beef and pork products you purchase from Marr's Valley View Farms. We encourage you to pre-order or come to market early for the best selection. Need a large quantity or can't make it to market Saturday morning - please call, 608-987-2097, and we will make other arrangements for your order. Summer produce is really starting to come in! Okay, the tomatoes are still a bit behind, but we should have a few, including some cherry tomatoes. Come early! Cucumbers are absolutely bountiful and delicious. We’ll have two main varieties which include standard slicing cukes and a thin-skinned, mild flavored type called “Diva”. We’ve been making big bowls of sliced cucumbers marinated in a mixture of a little vinegar, sugar, and salt. Any easy way to eat your veggies! Also bountiful are zucchini and pattypan squash. We’ll try to bring along some recipes to spark your imagination for cooking with summer squash. Zucchini fritters and oven fries are terrific. Other items this week will include eggplant, beautiful broccoli, green beans, onions, scallions, fennel, lettuce, salad mix, baby arugula, beets, Swiss chard, kale, basil, parsley, dill, and cilantro. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

Hi Everyone!  Last week was another great day at Market.  The weather, the vendors and the shoppers couldn't have been any nicer!  I am so enjoying being part of the whole experience.  But the weather is sounding a little "ify" for this Sat. so I am planning to stay home and sew.  The dolls don't like to get wet or blown around in the wind so we will stay in Cobb for the day.  My goal for Market on Sat. Aug. 2 is at least 20 more new items so stop by and see what's new.  Please pass the word to friends with 18" dolls and invite them to come along with you!  The more, the merrier.  If you need a gift before Aug. 2, do feel free to call me at 623-2592 and we can do a "personal shopper time" at my house in Cobb.  Looking forward to seeing you all at Market on Sat. Aug. 2.    Oh, don't forget, July is Beef Month so remember to support our local beef farmers at Market!!     Mummu (this is Finnish for "Grandma")

Beans! They are finally ready a week later than usual, but we’ll have a good supply for this weekend. We grow a variety called “Jade”. Although they are a favorite because of their long, slender pods, dark color, and great flavor, they aren’t the easiest to pick. A trade-off we’ll take (even if Jenny is getting a little tired of picky picking). Due to the cooler summer temps, we’ll also have more sugar snap peas. This will be the last of them for the season. It’s been a good, long one. Also on our tables this week: salad turnips (the last until late August), scallions, bunched onions, kohlrabi, red cabbage, kale, Swiss chard, cucumbers, zucchini and summer squash, beets, fennel, lettuces, salad mix, arugula, basil, dill, cilantro, and possibly some broccoli. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.
Sweet Earth Gardens and Vintage China
I am back at market this week with star gazer lilies, day lilies, hydrangeas, canterbury bells, sweet williams, cone flowers, lisianthus, yarrow, daisies and dahlias.  See you there. Barbara
UW Platteville Office of Sustainability
We'll be back in a few weeks.  In summer of 2013 UW-Platteville planted six acres of sunflowers just west of Menards on Business 151. "Food and fuel for our future" is our motto and maximizing local resources is our goal. This student-driven project produced sunflower oil from field to table!
WHY SUNFLOWERS?
Sunflower's grow well in Wisconsin, make a great bio-fuel, a healthy cooking oil comparable to olive oil, and can be grown with the same farming equipment as corn. The pulp (press meal) that remains once the oil is pressed out of the seeds makes an excellent high-protein cattle feed."

Hello MP Market Goers!
Well, the 4th has come and gone and it seems like summer is slipping away as well.  I can not believe that June is a thing of the past and August is right around the corner.  But despite time slipping away we do manage to eat well during the summer.  Lately, my kids have taken to picking what's left of the strawberries, literally the berries are no bigger than a nickel, and they have been combining those berries with the fresh wild crop of black caps for breakfast each morning.  I love that our kids can go out and pick breakfast.  What's better, they pick enough for me too!  We are so lucky and blessed!
Hopefully, you have been enjoying some great food too this season.  Grills can be fired up, picnics can be prepared, all with the great products you find at the Mineral Point Market.  Don't forget to ask your favorite vendors what their favorite dish is...they might just have a new recipe for you to try and love.
At the Mineral Point Market, you can get all your fresh food for the week.  Plus if you happen to need a gift there are several great market vendors that can provide you with the prefect gift.  And to top it off, breakfast at the market is a must.

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Sugar Snap Peas, Raspberries, Black Caps, Mulberries, Potatoes, Broccoli, Swiss Chard, mini onions, Arugula, Mixed Greens, Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Maple Syrup, Kohlarbi, Parsley, Basil, Dill, Perennials, Artisan Breads and Baked Goods, Kale, Beets, Salad Dressing, Scallions, Watercolor art, Dehydrated Veggies, Corn meal and Corn Flour, Radishes, green onions, yard art, Head Lettuce, Herbs, Bok Choy, green & napa cabbage, cucumbers, zucchini, and much more.   Come and check it all out!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Mummu's Makeovers aka Susan Marr
After the wonderful day at Market last week, I find myself running a little low on clothes for our dolls.  What a great dilemma!!  But because of this, Mummu will not be at Market this week.  Looks like I'll need to spend some extra time at the sewing machine.  So many fabrics and ideas and so little time!  I plan to be there the following week, July 26 with lots of new creations.  As always, if you need a gift or just want to see what's new, feel free to call me at 623-2592 and we can set up a time for you to come and shop at my house in Cobb.  (PS  You are welcome to bring your dolls along for "personal shopping"! )  Have a super week.  I'll see you at Market on July 26!     Mummu (this is Finnish for "Grandma")

Here’s what we expect to have on our tables Saturday:  sugar snap peas, broccoli, cabbage, napa cabbage, beets, kale, Swiss chard, radishes, kohlrabi, lots of lettuces, salad mix, arugula, a few green beans (just starting), scallions, summer squash, cucumbers, cilantro, dill, parsley, basil, and possibly something I’m overlooking at the moment! Hope to see you on Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

Here is a list of the unconfirmed vendors that may or may not be at market this week:

If you are interested in being a vendor, contact Jenny Bonde at starfarm@mhtc.net or Lois Federman at federman@charter.net.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the Mineral Point Market last Saturday - you are the best customers and we are so thankful.  Anyone try our new Chipoltle Ranch Bratwurst?  It joins Mushroom Swiss and Kraut & Onion in our specialty lineup.  You have been loving them so we'll keep developing them.  For those who are traditional bratwurst lovers, never fear, we will always offer our classic Pork and classic Beef brats.
As Beef producers, we like to remind you that it's never to soon to be thinking about July "Beef Month". Marinades and Rubs are a way to add flavors and variety to your meals and can assist with tenderizing meats. Here's a good basic "How To Video" brought to us from the Wisconsin Beef Council.
