May 31st - Week 5

Hello MP Market Goers!
Lots going on in town this weekend with the Fibre Art Faire!  Be sure to check it out at Shake Rag Alley Saturday and Sunday from 10-5pm.
For those of us with kids, there is just one short week of school left before summer is here. Which means as parents we need to have more food on hand than ever.  Quick and healthy go to snacks for the kid who has the "I'm hungry" attitude.  I usually plan two snacks into my childrens' day; one is fruit and veggies (sometimes in the form of a smoothie or green drink) the other is sausage, cheese, and crackers.  What better place to get these than at the Mineral Point Market!  Ever try fresh asparagus with a little bit of salad dressing? Their reaction might surprise you!  All summer long your kids will be able to work their way through the harvest season eating fresh and healthy all the while.  Plus, than they will be energized for going to the pool, soccer games, or just hanging out at the park.
Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Asparagus, Arugula, Mixed  Greens, Head Lettuce, Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Maple Syrup, Fresh Cut Flowers, Spinach, Cilantro, Dill, Perennials, Artisan Breads and Baked Goods, Kale, Baby Beets, Sunflower Oil, Salad Dressing, Rhubarb, Wildlife prints, Watercolor art, Goat Milk Soap and Lotion Bars, Dehydrated Veggies, Corn meal and Corn Flour, Radishes, yard art, and much more.   Come and check it all out!
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Matchbook Magnets
Hello market-goers!  I am excited to be back at the market this year with handcrafted magnets made using images from my Dad's vintage matchbook collection.  I plan to be at the market in May, but strictly as a shopper!  I’ll be back as a vendor in June with the usual favorites and some new additions.  Email:   matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com   Cindy
Mummu's Makeovers
I'm very glad to be participating in M.Pt. Market and offering something different.  I make doll clothes for 18" dolls (American Girl, etc. size) and am having a great time!  It's so nice to be back in M.Pt. after living here for 20+ years and now being gone for some time.  It feels like being "home" again.  I love visiting with so many old friends as well as seeing many new faces.  In my "creating", I use as much recycled material as possible including fabric, trims and other embellishments.  I'm still fairly new at this but I do have a nice variety of items including dresses, capris, shorts, skirts, tops, and accessories.  This week I'm working on adding bathing suits and have a cute selection.  Some have cover- ups, hats, totes, or sandals.  Just a reminder:  even though bathing suits are sold for your dolls, do NOT put your dolls in water.....they won't like it at all and they do NOT swim!!   I will be at Market this Sat. May 31 so stop by and say "Hi"!  I'm hoping to be at Market at least 2 times/month but it will be "weather permitting" so I will keep you all posted on my dates and what new items I am working on.  I look forward to seeing you on Sat. as you support your local Market!!    Mummu (this is Finnish for "Grandma")
Queen Bee Acres
Greetings Market goers.  What beautiful days we have had for market so far!  Let's hope we have more of the same for the rest of the season.  We are sorry to report that Queen Bee Acres will not be at the Mineral Point Market this Saturday with our honey but are looking forward to participating most of the remainder of the season.  I am also sorry to report that due to licensing requirements, the gentleman we were going to sell the olive oil for decided against having us sell it at the Market.  We understand and wish him the best.  Check with us next time you are at the Market, we our planning on having new surprises every week.  See you June 7th!  Pete & Fran Demo, Keepers of the Bees; queenbeeacres.com
Shooting Star Farm
Summer has definitely arrived (though I’m not sure what happened to Spring). We are busy trying to catch up with planting tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and other warm season crops. They’ll be ready before we know it. But for this week, Spring still abounds. We’ll have kale, arugula, salad mix, big and small heads of lettuce, cilantro, dill, baby beets, French breakfast radishes, some bunches of salad turnips, and possibly spinach. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Sweet Earth Gardens and Vintage China
I will be here this week with more tulip, daffodil and dutch iris bouquets and forced bulbs.  I am very excited to be bringing fresh cut flowers back to the Mineral Point Market. Barbara Manion-Platt
UW Platteville Office of Sustainability
In summer of 2013 UW-Platteville planted six acres of sunflowers just west of Menards on Business 151. "Food and fuel for our future" is our motto and maximizing local resources is our goal. This student-driven project produced sunflower oil from field to table!
WHY SUNFLOWERS?
Sunflower's grow well in Wisconsin, make a great bio-fuel, a healthy cooking oil comparable to olive oil, and can be grown with the same farming equipment as corn. The pulp (press meal) that remains once the oil is pressed out of the seeds makes an excellent high-protein cattle feed."

May 24th - Week 4

Hello MP Market Goers!
It's Memorial Day Weekend!  Is your grill all ready to go?  Ours isn't, it literally alighted in one giant flame last night as we were getting ready to grill our asparagus for dinner.  Alas, I do believe we will not be grilling for Memorial Day.  Regardless of our grill situation though, we will be having some delicious Market food!  Fresh veggies, deviled eggs, a nice salad, rhubarb cake, still need to decide on the meat though.  Chicken or beef, that is the question?
If you have company coming to town, like we do, why not bring them to market with you.  People always love checking out new places and things.  Plus you could have breakfast from Hazelnut cafe under the old oak trees.  As an added bonus the weather for Saturday looks to be perfect!

Here is a partial list of items at this week's market:  Asparagus, Arugula, Mixed  Greens, Baby Lettuce, Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Honey, Maple Syrup, Spinach, Wild Leeks, Cilantro, Dill, Perennials, Artisan Breads and Baked Goods, Salad Dressing, Rhubarb, Wildlife prints, Watercolor art, Dehydrated Veggies, Corn meal and Corn Flour, Radishes, yard art, and much more.   Come and check it all out!
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Reminder - it is a time for all ages to take care of each other resulting in great memories built through a safe and happy weekend celebration.
For this week's recipe head to the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board's Cheese and Burger Society website.  You're gonna love it there. http://www.cheeseandburger.com/.  Also follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CheeseAndBurger.

The warm weather last weekend was great! The rain came a few hours too soon for us, delaying some planting, but things already in the ground really jumped. We have several new items this week.  There should be no shortage of red radishes (finally), and we’ll also have some spring salad turnips. Arugula and other baby greens from the field are ready, and coupled with the baby lettuce in our hoop house, we’ll have some nice salad mix. The Asian greens from last week will make another appearance, as will baby bok choy, plenty of wintered-over spinach, rhubarb, and ramps. Our table will be full! Looks like spring has finally arrived! Rhubarb is starting to grow (we’ll have a bit for market), and our wintered-over spinach from the field is finally big enough to harvest. This spinach has never been this late to harvest in all the years we’ve farmed. Says something about our spring…. In addition to the rhubarb and spinach, we’ll have red and French breakfast radishes, wild-harvested ramps, and possibly some bunched Asian greens (grow greens, grow!).  It was great seeing everyone last week. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again this Saturday. Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

Mediterranean style salad sauce is the kind of dressing I make.    Original creamy garlic and creamy garlic with feta and green onion will be my 1st variations.   It has a Bold, fresh taste, all natural and NO preservatives.  Very healthy! Can be used as a topping for baked potatoes, pasta, steamed veggies/spinach, tacos, chili/lentil soup, sandwich spread and of course mixed into salads.

Shooting Star Farm
Wow, it’s market season again! Someone tell Mother Nature! As you know, this has been one cold spring. Normally our hoop house is bursting at the seams by now, but due to frigid March & April temperatures, even veggies in that protected environment are lagging. But enough with the negative news and on to the first market offerings. We will have some French breakfast radishes and wintered-over spinach from our hoop house. We are also hoping to dig ramps (wild leeks) to bring along as well. Looks like the frost will stay away and the sun may even shine, so stop by and say hello! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Sweet Earth Gardens and Vintage China
