Week 25 - October 20th

Hello MP Market Goers!

It’s Fall Art Tour weekend!  Come on out and shop the galleries of Mineral Point.  You are bound to find something for anyone and everyone.  Personally I love Mineral Point, there is so much creativity abounding all throughout town.  And it’s not just me, Mineral Point has won numerous awards for Best Town! Even one of our very own vendors has been recently recognized!  Check out Cook’s Woods and what they have been up to on the farm.

On a sad note… the end of the Mineral Point Market season is here and Saturday is the last market.  What a year it has been though.  We have had some hot and dry days this season, but thankfully we now have some rain.  We received 2.5” last weekend at the Patch.  Whew, that should help to winterize the plants and make everything fruitful again next year.

As vendors we really want to say thank you for coming out to the Mineral Point Market!  Rain or Shine, Cold or Hot, Breezy or Calm, you know we will be there (just like last weekend).  We are so grateful for you our customers and we love being able to provide you with local products.  Many of the vendors provide their products year-round so if you are in need please do not hesitate to give them a call; contact information is listed on the Vendor Page.

Have a great winter everyone!  We hope to see you Saturday and again next May!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Carey's Green House
My name is Delbert Carey and I was born and raised in Mineral Point.  I have many annuals that can be used in both container gardens and traditional growing spaces. Because of my time at Pendarvis, English garden favorites such as lilacs, hollyhocks, and hostas are also favorites of mine. I taught pre-school for eight years and learned just how much fun kids can have growing sunflowers and pumpkins. Finally I’ve always had a weakness for climbing vines such as morning glories and moon flowers.
My parents have enjoyed joining in on this little project and they helped me choose the name Carey’s Green House which is an inside joke. After forty-six years of living in the same white house, last summer my parents decided to paint the whole thing Green, and thus the bulk of my plants come from Carey’s green house. All of the plants we offer for sale are either annuals grown naturally from seeds or perennials that are either grown from seeds or grown from cuttings of plants that have grown in my parents gardens for the last 46 years.
I hope to see you all at the market!

Marr's Valley View Farms
This week is the last scheduled Market of 2012. THANK YOU to all of you, our loyal customers for supporting both us and the Market. We would not be here without you. I've been saying it for a few weeks, but NOW is the time to give serious thought to stocking up on your favorite cuts. Marr's Valley View Farms offers a wide variety of high quality, flavorful, Pork and Black Angus Beef products available for your eating enjoyment. Or consider joining our Meat CSA for the Winter. Ask us on Saturday for details and how to join.
The season for favorite home cooked meals is upon us. We are fully stocked with great roasts ready for the slow cooker. Pair with some veggies and potatoes from our fellow Market vendors and you are all set for a comforting home cooked meal.  A friendly reminder that our meats are available 7 days a week, year round, with just an e-mail or phone call. Yes, we've even come to the rescue on Christmas as a result of a somewhat overdone roast! You can also order a variety of our meats for weekly pick-up through Rink DaVee's online ordering website -www.greensq.net.   Remember - when you dine on Marr's Valley View Farms meats, rest assured you are eating naturally lean meats - fresh pork and beef products direct from a local farm to you. The only stop in-between us and the consumer is the State inspected processing facility.  If you are ready to stock up or just want to pre-order for pick-up at market, e-mail your order to federman@charter.net by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14th. See you Saturday a.m. - Mike, Lois & Doral.
Matchbook Magnets
I will be at the market this week unless it rains.  It’s not too early to get a head start on your holiday shopping, so if you need stocking stuffers or will be someone’s secret Santa, come by and check out my magnets!  They are made using images from matchbooks my Dad collected during the golden age of matchbook advertising – the 1940s thru early 1960s.  They make unique gifts and will brighten your kitchen, office or workshop and appeal to all ages.  One of my favorite experiences this year was when a young boy stopped by with his grandma.  He saw my Collie magnet, put it up to his cheek, closed his eyes, and was loving that dog.  Grandma bought him the magnet, and as they walked away I could hear him yelling “I have a collie!  I have a collie!”  I pictured him getting home, telling mom he got a collie at the Farmer’s Market and her heart skipping a beat until she realized it was only in magnet form!  See you Saturday!  Email:   matchbookmagnets@yahoo.com   Cindy
Mission Abolition
Mission Abolition will not be at market this week.  Mission Abolition creates schlep bags made from donated fabrics, which brings unique color and pattern designs to each bag.  All proceeds from the sales of these bags are donated to the Not For Sale organization, which works to end human trafficking and modern-day slavery.  Mission Abolition believes in raising awareness of the needs of people involved in human trafficking and modern-day slavery with a personal touch sewn into each bag.
P & M Gardens
We will be at the market this week Hosta, Peonies and Daylilies.
Shooting Star Farm
It’s hard to believe the last market is already here! It was a challenging season to be sure, but as always, you’re support made it worthwhile. Even though the weather is telling us it’s time to start wrapping things up, we will have some nice products for this last market. Here’s the list: Lots of salad mix, baby arugula, spinach, baby romaine lettuce, red and French breakfast radishes, salad turnips, bunched carrots, green and red cabbage, bok choy, kohlrabi, napa cabbage, bunched leeks, kale, Swiss chard, beets (most likely every color BUT red…), a bit of summer squash, a mish mash of sweet peppers, some Italian bottle onions, and hopefully some broccoli (although most of it looks like it’ll be ready in two weeks!!). Enjoy your Fall Art Tour weekend, and hope to see you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
Turtle Hill Wilds
Turtle Hill Wilds will not be at market for the rest of the season.  We all wear many hats in our quest to stay afloat in today's world, and our work hats as land stewards will take us away from Mineral Point for the rest of the season.  Please, contact us at our e-mail or phone number if interested in honey, honey creams, and jams for yourself, friends, and family during the upcoming holiday season.  We would love to accomodate your requests. Best! We are getting down to the final days of the market season and our vendors are ready to help you fill your freezer and pantry for the upcoming winter.  If you are looking to place a large order, give your favorite Mineral Point Market vendor a call before market so that they can have it ready for you when you get to market.

Week 23 - October 6th

Hello MP Market Goers!

Oh my goodness, just 3 markets left!  This summer has gone so quickly and here we are nearing the end.  Most of us farmers, if we haven't already had a frost, are anticipating a killing frost to occur tonight.  Bummer, but fortunately for you most of us have been harvesting all that is left in our fields.  Shooting Star Farm will have more cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, and peppers as well as a table full of other goodies.  Gough's Farm Goods will have lots of squash and watermelons.  At market there will also be the hearty and healthy meat to warm your bellies during this cool down period.  Marr Valley View will be at market with the beef and pork and James Pine Valley Farm will have their full line of chicken as well as cheese (we are in Wisconsin right).
In addition, market is the perfect place to stop out and pick up gifts for any occasion. There is jewelry, magnets, plants, art, canned goods, honey, soap. You name it; the Mineral Point Market has what you are looking for. Looking for some fruit and other locally grown Wisconsin products, stop by and talk to Mary Jean James or Lois Federman about the FFA sale going on now.
So stop on out to the Mineral Point Market before all the weekend run around gets going!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

We’ve escaped most of the frost up here in our hill-top fields, but it looks inevitable this weekend. We’ve already harvested many pints of cherry tomatoes in advance of the weekend, and will gather all the peppers and tomatoes that we can. We should even have basil for this week. Our table will be filled with lots of wonderful fall crops: bunched carrots, kohlrabi, green cabbage, broccoli, bok choy, napa cabbage, beets, leeks, radicchio, fennel, kale, Swiss chard, salad turnips, red and French breakfast radishes, red and green leaf lettuces, salad mix, baby arugula, cilantro, a bit of summer squash, and the previously mentioned peppers, cherry tomatoes, and basil.
