Carey's Green House
My name is Delbert Carey and I was born and raised in Mineral Point. I have many annuals that can be used in both container gardens and traditional growing spaces. Because of my time at Pendarvis, English garden favorites such as lilacs, hollyhocks, and hostas are also favorites of mine. I taught pre-school for eight years and learned just how much fun kids can have growing sunflowers and pumpkins. Finally I’ve always had a weakness for climbing vines such as morning glories and moon flowers.
My parents have enjoyed joining in on this little project and they helped me choose the name Carey’s Green House which is an inside joke. After forty-six years of living in the same white house, last summer my parents decided to paint the whole thing Green, and thus the bulk of my plants come from Carey’s green house. All of the plants we offer for sale are either annuals grown naturally from seeds or perennials that are either grown from seeds or grown from cuttings of plants that have grown in my parents gardens for the last 46 years.
I hope to see you all at the market!

Week 8 - June 23rd
Hello MP Market Goers!
I can not believe that we are on week 8 of the market already this year; at the
Patch we are already thinking of summer raspberries! I guess that is better
than the school backpacks I saw in Staples the other day all ready for school
shopping, really? Honestly though this season is going so quickly and things
are a bit ahead of schedule. Shooting Star Farm will have broccoli this week
and we've been digging potatoes for a couple of weeks now. It seems like
everything is running 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule. What a year it has
been!
That being said there is always great stuff to grab at market. The
fruit and veggies are fantastic. But there are also great gifts for birthdays,
anniversaries, even for your 4th of July party hostess. Just the other week I
picked up a beautiful necklace from DDP Beads! Everything is wonderfully made
by the vendors themselves, so be sure to check out their tables.
So come
on out and enjoy the Mineral Point Market and all its bounty!
We
look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business
Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00
a.m.

Shooting Star Farm
Looking for something to do this Saturday June 16th? Shake
Rag Alley is hosting its annual Town and Country Garden Tour fundraiser from
9-5pm, and we’re on the tour! You can do a self-guided tour of gardens -
including several out our way - or take a bus tour hosted by Shelley Ryan of
PBS show The Wisconsin Gardener.
See www.shakeragalley.com
for more information. But you should definitely shop at the Market before
going on the tour!
Last week we sold out of beets rather early. They were just sizing up and we
didn’t have many. We should have plenty more this week. We’ll also have a
limited supply of sugar snap peas. Some critter got in and munched some of our
early pea plants, so we’ll have a small-ish amount for Saturday. Later
plantings look better. We’ll even have a few (and I mean few) cucumbers for the
early birds. Other items include: Swiss chard, collard greens, kale, radishes,
salad turnips, garlic scapes (use like garlic), scallions (green onions), napa
cabbage, cilantro, basil, lots of lettuce varieties (bibb, leaf, baby romaine),
salad mix, and baby arugula. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie.
Turtle Hill Wilds
We will not be at
market this week, but the next (June 23). We will have honey, raw and creamed, and a variety of honey-sweetened jams. Dried burgundy wine cap mushrooms too, with perhaps some fresh, depending on the weather. We are open at Turtle Hill for visitors by appointment. Consider coming by for a walk in the forest to learn more about wild plants and a visit to our bee yard. Into woodworking? Check out our barn-dried sustainably harvested wood. If you would like to learn more about Turtle Hill please introduce yourself to Cindy and Charles at the market, or give us a call at 608-523-4213.

Shooting Star Farm
Things are looking
good on the farm for this time of year. The first week in June can be a
challenge as there always seems to be a perfect combination of heat and rain,
which makes the weeds go crazy. Luckily nothing is out of control. Plus we just
got two new summer helpers on board. Hurray for that! Our veggie line up
for this week will be just about the same as last week, with tentative addition
of beets and sugar snap peas (we hope). Look for lettuce (green and red bibb,
green and red leaf, and a variety of miniature heads), endive, cilantro, salad
mix, baby arugula, kale, Swiss chard, scallions, green garlic (young garlic
plants), red radishes, salad turnips, and garlic scapes (delicious, garlicky
seed stalks from garlic plants). Spinach is iffy. We’re hoping the patch
re-grows in time for Friday’s harvest. Looks like Saturday will be a beautiful
day for the market! See you then. Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

variety of honey-sweetened jams. Dried burgundy wine cap mushrooms too,
with perhaps some fresh, depending on the weather.
