Week 5 - June 2nd

Hello MP Market Goers!

Well, the weather cooperated perfectly last weekend. Just as we were beginning to set up our tables the rain stopped and it turned out to be a beautiful morning. There were not as many of us vendors out there but hopefully those that made it out were able to get everything they needed. Remember we are there for you rain or shine every Saturday May through the third week in October .
There are lots of things going on around town this weekend, first and foremost is the Art in Motion Parade. This sounds like such a fun outing. Check out Art in Motion for more information. Also on Sunday Pendarvis is having Visitor Appreciation Day with general admission reduced to $2 per person. Did I mention Saturday night is gallery night! All in all this weekend is filled with exciting possibilities.
Things sure cooled down this week at the farm, which actually made for very comfortable working weather. Much better than the high 80's that we were feeling last weekend. New to market this week is the strawberries, can't wait to make my first pie of the season!
Some come on out and enjoy the Mineral Point Market and all its bounty!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Week 4 - May 26th

Hello MP Market Goers!

We have had another beautiful week in the fields! Lots of work is getting done and now we just need some rain to keep things growing. It is the fourth week of market and we will begin to see some new items coming on the menu in the next couple of weeks. Shooting Star Farm (Rink & Jenny) will have some new products for your taste buds this week and in another week or so Bures Berry Patch will have strawberries! But for now, it is time to fire up the grills, too hot for cooking in the house this weekend. Be sure to grab some tender and juicy meat as well as lots of delicious veggies (don't forget, many veggies can be cooked on the grill).
If you are like me, you also have gardening on the menu for this long weekend. Be sure to check out our wide selection of beautiful plants at market this week. There will be annual flowers and hanging baskets, perennial plants (some blooming) and native plants, as well as garden starts.
Some come on out and enjoy the Mineral Point Market and all its bounty!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Week 3 - May 19th

Hello MP Market Goers!

What a beautiful week it has been, sunshine and warm temps, yeah! Summer is quickly approaching and my list of things to do is nearly doubling by the day. With all this warm weather and sunshine things have really begun to pop. Sounds like there will be a wide selection of produce at market this week, including tender and delicious spring spinach. Right now is peek asparagus season so be sure to stock up and get some in your freezer for winter. Speaking of stocking up, Mary Jean James will be here this week but not for a couple weeks after that, so if you are planning a Memorial Day celebration be sure to put chicken and cheese on your list for this week.

Congratulations goes to Carole Spelic, winner of last week's market basket drawing. She's so lucky! She will be receiving a basket full of goodies from us vendors. This is just one way in which we can thank you for supporting the market. Thanks Carole and everyone else for coming out to market each week!

New this week...MUSIC! It is true, there will be music in the park this week at market! Just The Two Of Us, Bob Cullen on banjo and Peg Cullen on fiddle and vocals, will be entertaining us with Bluegrass and Old Time tunes.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Week 2 - May 12th

Hey have you heard the news?
Mineral Point Market won 2012 Best of the Best Farmers' Market in Iowa County! Thanks for voting us Best!

Week 2 is here already? Really it's true, however, I feel as though I have gotten into the swing of things and the nervous jitters are gone. Yes, even after vending at farmers' markets for years now I still get nervous before the first one and inevitably forget something (this year it was brochures, not too painful). We all had a wonderful time last Saturday seeing you for the first time in awhile and meeting some new faces. Thanks so much for coming out last week.

This Saturday may not be a huge improvement in weather however, don't let the weather bug hold you back from coming out because it is the second market of the month and that makes this weeks market, market basket drawing week! This is a great opportunity to win a basket full of goodies from us, your local vendors. So be sure to come out and sign up! In addition, our market selection continues to grow, check out the website for more details. One little hint, one of the new product offerings involves flour.

.We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning at Water Tower Park, Business Hwy 151 at Madison Street, Mineral Point! 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Shooting Star Farm
Another busy week of transplanting, hoeing, seeding, and harvesting. Our 5-year old woke up this morning and said, “It didn’t rain! We’ve to get outside and do some farming”. This at 6am… Thanks in part to him we’ve got lots of fresh, yummy vegetables for this week. Salad greens will include baby arugula, salad mix (baby lettuces mixed flavorful baby Asian greens and arugula),  little gem romaine lettuce, green bibb lettuce (gorgeous!), and spinach.  Top your salad with red and French breakfast radishes and salad turnips. The salad turnips can be eaten raw or cooked, and their greens are delicious. Other cooking greens include “vitamin green” which is  similar to bok choy in flavor, but even milder and more tender. Plus bunches of young red Russian kale – perfect for quickly steaming or sautéing, but tender enough to eat raw. Also look for rhubarb and wintered-over leeks. The leeks are particularly sweet this time of year. Finally, we’ll have young garlic, known as green garlic. You can use the bulb and greens any way you might use garlic. See you Saturday! Rink, Jenny, and Charlie

Turtle Hill Wilds
Turtle Hill Wilds will be at market this week.  As always, our honey supply will be well stocked.  Our mushrooms continue to flush, and we hope to have more wine cap and shitake mushrooms on our table.   The nettle and wild baby greens season is over until next spring. We will also have native plants to add into your landscaping designs around your home.  The native plants we offer are medicinal, edible, and/or home to the many pollinators we all love to have around us.  They also have one other very important characteristic - they are beautiful in bloom or foliage.  We are open at Turtle Hill for visitors by appointment.  Consider coming by for a walk in the forest to learn more about wild plants and a visit to our bee yard (apiary).  We welcome giving tours to youth groups.  If you would like to learn more about Turtle Hill please introduce yourself to Cindy and Charles at the market, or give us a call at 608-523-4213.

Shooting Star Farm
It’s hard to believe May is here and another season is underway – our 17th! The early warm-up allowed us to get things in the ground sooner than usual, and we’ve had over-wintered spinach for an entire month now, which is incredible. Our selection for early May is better than usual. From our unheated hoophouse we have heads of little gem baby romaine lettuce, red and French breakfast radishes, and bunched Asian greens. Spinach, leeks (over-wintered), arugula, salad mix, and rhubarb will be coming from the fields. It looks to be a nice, warm day. We’re looking forward to a great season! See you Saturday. Rink, Jenny, and Charlie
