Cherry tomatoes are starting to ripen. Hurray! We will have some pints of both sungold and red this week. We’ll also have a small amount of mini heirloom tomatoes and a early red tomatoes. You’d think with all the heat this summer that tomatoes would be especially early. But it’s hard to recall just how cool the spring was. The soil temperatures were awfully cold into May. I ‘m glad we’ve finally caught up. To go with tomatoes, we have a gorgeous array of eggplant. We love to grill eggplant. No peeling or salting, just some olive oil, salt and pepper, and slices are done in 10 minutes on a hot grill (turning once). Or grill them dry and dip in a mixture of balsamic vinegar, olive oil and parsley. Yum. Other great grilling items include summer squash, fennel, and fresh onions. We’ll have some large sweet onions and purple Italian bottle onions this week. Other items at our stand will include bunched carrots, bunched beets, green beans, Swiss chard, kale, cucumbers, lettuce, salad mix, basil, parsley, and sage. See you Saturday!
